I am getting ready to drill a 1.6 oil pan for the oil drain.
Alot of the pics and builds I have looked at have no AC in place and others I have owned either had no AC or utilized the built in drain nipple on the passenger side of the block. I am keeping the AC on this car, so I am trying to figure out the right/best place to drill. Anyone have a link to a pic of a build with AC. Just want to doublecheck before I drill it.
Thanks in advance.

It's really easy Kurt. My car has A/C and I did it with everything in place. Go between the first and second oil pan bolt, in the center of that panel.

I tried to take a good pic just now, but that might not be possible with the car on the ground.

Ahh...so under the AC bracket then?
My engine is on the floor so I have complete access to it.
The AC bracket is attached however for reference.
I am not really worried about drilling I just want to get it in the
right spot. Hehehe...okay that sounded suggestive..

correct, in the top pic I posted you can see the bottom of the a/c bracket

Wow- I didn't realize that it mounted that low on the pan. How high is the oil level on that end when the pan is at the proper level? Must only be a 1/2" or so...

There really shouldn't be any level of oil there, it would be flowing down to the sump. No?

Kurt's bracket does look a wee low. I bet it would adjust up a little.

Corky says it doesn't matter if you tap below the oil level. And I believe him, but I still got mine as high up as possible. I actually drilled with the a/c bracket in place, but had to remove the bracket to thread the pipe fitting in. (the "corners" of the fitting would strike the bottom of the bracket when turning)

The HKS 1.8 kits actually used a setup like that.
The 1.6 kit however used the existing drain nipple
on the passenger side of the block. Other turbo cars/engines
I have owned were drilled higher on the pan then AC will allow...or on the front corner.

Which is why I'm swapping to a MSM pan on my 1.8. Bolt on and go. :)

The MSM pan also have a fitting on the pass. side for a oil breather/catch can....

And i'd be willing to be that if someone reproduced those parts and sold them, people would buy them because they don't want to tap the pan :)
If I had access to those parts, i'd try to do it.

Haven't had an oil temp problem before, but it will be nice to be able to easily add a cooler if I need to.
