I picked one of the brand new ones up (only 7 miles on the odometer) for my wife because her golf vr6 that I was really looking forward to working on turned out to be a nightmare for reliability.
She's had it for about a month and a half now and so far everything I've read about this car is true. It's an absolute blast! As far as performance goes the Speed3 has a new kid in town to compete against.
I'm worried it's a little too much car for her, but she's very responsible. Not saying women can't drive fast. It's just a big jump in performance. Before this it was the Golf vr6 that wouldn't stop breaking. Previous to it was a Protege5 we'd just paid off when some dumbass pulled out from a side road and t-boned her.
Now if I can just get her to drag it out to an auto-x or something.

she'll prolly fall in love with the power and insist on taking it for an auto-x. my ex gf, who im really good friends with still 9 years later.. she can drive, i've never felt like she's ganna **** up, like holding my breath, complaining, none of that. she really drive a car.
i learned from watching my cousin's daughter grow up riding her lil mini bike, i think she's 12 now? but while his 2 son in laws were wrecking and breaking parts, she stuck to her own comfortable pace.. some girls are like this, and its comes down to "patience is a virtue" and when girls think they're invincible their insurence rates go up.

That sounds like a challenge! Your wife in her Cobalt vs my wife in her Speed3!

I've read only good things about the SS -- I'd say take her as a spectator one day to an autocross event, see if she expresses any interest - then find out when the next beginner's day is and sign her up for that... many clubs hold them once or twice per season... depending on interest level, I think. If you don't see one scheduled, asking about one (to the club RE) can only help...

 That should be VW's ad slogan in my opinion...."A nightmare of reliability!"

That sounds like a challenge! Your wife in her Cobalt vs my wife in her Speed3! She probably hasn't done an auto-x since she had her Miata, and that was high school. I'll see if I can't force her to make an appearance. She already said she'll come out to the little Miata gathering next Friday. Never expected that one.:jawdrop:
Metalman, I said to myself "German cars have always been built solid. Mercedes are reliable cars, I'm sure VW will be the same."
:dunce: I spent close to 2,000 in repairs on that car in less than a year.

My wife's never autoX'd, but she's done about 25 1/4mi passes!
But unfortunately we'll be outta town for that meet.

In my experience German 'reliability' and real reliability are two different things.
Generally speaking, German cars require $$$ in 'maintenance' to be 'reliable' over the long haul.

Some of it was general maintenance (I guess), but a lot of it was crap that had no business breaking.

You buy a VW so much as open a trust fund towards your VW's well being.

A neighbor of mine has a cabriolet, I think thats what it is. She took it to the dealer because the dome light would not come on when the doors opened. turns out that the computer that runs it is fried, and its $500
