Is it just me, or does anyone else think that the region has out priced itself. $40 bucks for non scca members for 4-6 hours of standing around for 4 30-50 second laps. plus gas food etc.

It does seem a bit much but it all goes out the window once it's your turn on the track. Admittedly i'm saving up for a pdx day in November but this is as good as it's gonna get for legal aggressive driving for sub $100.
thats why you join and pay 30, or even better use the season pass at the beginning of the year;)
but ill be there nice and early and hanging out in the back of the trailer trying to get sleep or something:lol:

Saturday is actually the second to last autox of the season. Sunday is the last w/ the National Tour style Champion of Champions event. Saturday is, however, the last points event.

I agree that is the way to go if you can commit yourself to at least 7-8 events throughout the year. I unfortunately do get stuck working weekends every now and then.
For me, for now, I would rather spend the 40 bucks on a full tank of gas and drive the mountains for a few hours or save for a roll bar and get some pdx's in.
It is, however the only place you can legally drive 10 tenths (or 11 tenths spin),and not hurt anything or anyone, and the adrenaline rush is pretty cool when you drive that one really good lap.
I do still enjoy it every now and then, and I have made some friends at the events, and I do enjoy the competition, even though i am not competitive on street tires in stock class.
Dam it now I want to sign up I may have just talked myself into it.

The region is covering their costs, and really not much more. The problem is two fold: 1st: there are a very limited number of places that let us run. 2nd: Those places charge an arm and a leg for site rental. So, in order to continue being able to afford running at Six Flags, Turner and AMS, the prices are what they are.
And yes, a membership pays for itself pretty quickly.
And if you buy a season pass @ the beginning of the season, you save even more.
If you know of a place that'd let us run for cheap or free, PLEASE let us know. The cheaper it is for the region to keep putting on events, the cheaper event entry would likely be.

I'm pretty much of the same mind. I don't get much out of it. Probably not going to run. Might come watch though.
If it goes back to the format where you work the group immediately before or after your run group I'd be more inclined to do it again, unless it's changed back to that and I didn't know about it. Having to spend the entire day there isn't worth it. Why'd it get changed to that to begin with?

The region got too big and the run groups were taking forever, and now of course you have the "pro" class to deal with, one more run group to add to the mix. That was kind of the downfall for me I would rather run against the "better" drivers in the same group, gives you a better idea of where you stand.

I would not pretend to know the finances and rental rates, but I have a hard time believing that it costs more than 5 - 7 grand for one day which would be the average income for entry fees. I know there have been equipment upgrades and all but....
It also seems that overall attendance is down, less income with all of the changes in the past 2 years.

I don't know the exact numbers off hand, but I know 3-5 grand easy just for lot rental. Then you have insurance, sanctioning fees, fuel costs (tow the region trailer, run the ATV, generator, and at the night events a buttload of diesel for the light towers), replacing dead cones, timing equipment gets upgraded occasionally, etc. The stuff adds up ;)
And FWIW: if you're autocrossing JUST for the driving aspect of it, you're never going to get the most out of it. It's the competition and the people who keep me coming back for more.

I might be interested seen as they don't like me using my English Arai helmet with a worn out snell rating that means I am at danger in a 40mph parking lot....
but yeah, I'm gonna sign up for the scca, it's a year long membership isn't it? how much of a discount do i get with the weekend memberships and wasn't there something where you get your first autox free?
how does the membership referral work?

What size is your skull? Pm me if you want it. Don't know where you live but I could bring both helmets to work with me tomorrow you can pick which one you want for $25. I'll be at work in suwanee til around 8:00. Both of them are pretty new I think I only wore one of them once, both are open face which I prefer for better vision.

That might be a good idea. I generally prefer the closed face helmets but $25 is a good deal. Even so, XL is often a size to small for my huge head.

Well guys, it looks like my wrx is not going to make it to the autox on saturday. While prepping the car for sat, i noticed that my front left wheel wobbles/moves freely because of a worn out bearing, and i can't risk running it until i've replaced the bearing. I'm trying to borrow a friend's car, either way i'll be there on sat, just not my subie. :(

Checking the results, I've got some mixed emotions. The on-track time slips I was handed do not reflect the times posted for my runs. At all. The times that I ran and was given at the track wouldn't be enough to bump me from fifth to fourth for today's racing, but on the other hand, there's a big psychological difference between the 49.93 I was told I ran and the 51.901 I supposedly ran according to the results. Not worth making an issue about, since it doesn't affect my standings in any way for the event or for the season, but still.... My 49.93 would have put me within .7 seconds of equaling the GTR. Oh well.:violin:

It was good to meet Jack! Sorry I didn't meet anyone else on here. I was hosting my Father in Law at the event and since he mainly speaks French, I was trying to stick around by him. It was good to get out in the miata, but the Advans have GOT to go. It was weird driving a RWD car again on an autocross course, but my 53.1XX was encouraging considering it was the first time running this year, in a totally stock car, that I was driving in an autocross for the first time. I know, lot of qualifiers. Anyways, hope to meet more of you at the install day, whenever it ends up happening!
