I was looking at ordering a rollbar today, but I can't find one that I like that is compatible with an aftermarket glass soft top, and a hardtop...
Here is what i found:
http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?dept=92
I want the look/functionality of the hardcore bar over just the roll hoops.

I'm not sure what you were linking to. But I am a HardDog dealer, and do offer a Hard Core that will be compatible with hardtop and OEM or OEM like glass top.

Oh yeah? PM me a price or link please :)
Is it this one? http://www.flyinmiata.com/index.php?deptid=5653&parentid=0&stocknumber=20-38000++NO+DIAG
I wasn't sure if it would fit since it didn't really specify.

Call Bethania Garage (www.bethania-garage.com), who makes Hard Dog. They will tell you what aftermarket glass tops will and will not fit with the M2 Hard Core Hard Top, which is what you will need with a glass window and hardtop. I was about to get a glass rear window top for my car, but wanted their integrated harness bar, so I sacrificed and stayed with the plastic rear window.

Also, because it is coming up soon, in January, Flyin Miata offers free shipping on all Hard Dog roll bars. Only free shipping on accessories when they are ordered with the bar at the same time. Saves some good money.

Greg, the Ace bar that you linked to will basically fit any 90-05 Miata, any top, any hard top, but depends on the configuration of the harness bar and diagonals. However, it does not offer the same amount of protection as the Hard Core or Sport because it is shorter in height. Not good for track protection, or as I felt, protection overall.

No like this http://www.bethania-garage.com/m2hardcore_hardtop.htm
Prices are as listed. Bethania does not allow any discount of any kind. And the reality is, after we pay the cc or pp processing fee, there's no margin anyway.

We'll still help ya out tho. You can even have the bar shipped to my loading dock and we can do tech day type thing to install it at the shop.

Really? Where is your shop?

I have a bainstorm roll bar which is what the ace was roughly based off of. It probably won't give you the height clearance for an official track day, but it is back behind the seat so you won't knock your head on it in an accident on the street. It all comes down to what you are going to use the car for.

Greg
10-06-2008, 07:41 PM
Well it won't be tracked, but I do want something that is taller than my head. In the picture, the ACE bar is almost level with the top of the seats. My head goes about 4-5 inches above the seats... In a rollover, you'd be kinda screwed...

Well it depends if you want to retain your interior if you choose to go the Tommy route, he was nearly in tears when I kept mine

Lol, fair point. But we made yours match up reasonably well.

I just want another chance to break out the Sawzall. :P

Seriously though. We need an install day. I'd be game to have it at my place if need be. I can fit about 8 Miatas in the driveway, and I live in a cul-de-sac too so...
I have all the basic tools, but my compressor took a dump on me, so if someone was willing to provide a compressor, I have the air tools.

I live Sugar Hill. About 5min from the Mall of Ga

And if for some reason an engine hoist is needed I can bring mine along. Can also be used to jack up rollbar-equipped cars. :)

Yeah I had one, but it took a dump too. The dampner jsut gave out and dropped an SR about 3 feet to the ground...

If we're all bringing big *** equipment, there probably won't be many Miatas at the Miata install day.

Greg

You could always just drop it off ahead of time, and then drive the car the day of.

ben would you like to sign up as a site sponsor so you can advertise your goodies on the main page here? I would like people to buy from our local community rather than others.

I had the HDHCM2DD in my 99, took about 4hrs to install.

I also had the HDHCSD in my 96..and it held just fine in a roll over.

But now i have the Boss Frog Double Maxx...which is technically stronger than the Hard Dog bars.

Bethania does not allow any discounts from list, but I can help with the shipping that you just paid $70 for.

I'm actually in the process of installing the rollbar now. Its fairly easy except theres absolutely no room to get a drill in there to drill the holes...

RotorNutFD3S
10-10-2008, 03:14 PM
If you follow their instructions, it's fairly easy. They call for getting one hole drilled from the top, loosely bolting the back-up plate into place, and then drilling the other holes from the underside using the plate as a template. It's how I did it, worked fine. Just takes patience and time.
Make sure you use some rubberized coating on the underside when you're done!

Greg
10-10-2008, 03:18 PM
Gotcha. I didn't get any instructions however. I'm just winging it.
Pretty straight forward though, I have the slots cut out, all I need to do is drill the holes and bolt her up.

I never should've taken a break, cause now I'm all lazy n **** and don't feel like going back out here.

I'm the same way.....that's why if I start something, I don't allow myself to go back inside till it's completed.

+1
I went at the rollbar install steady. Took some time, but I was glad I didn't stop. I wanted to quit at a few points. I had two bits break on me and I sliced the top of my finger on some bare metal... Oops.

MeFryRice
10-10-2008, 03:24 PM
I'm sure that felt good. Speaking of slicing, you should see the pic of Harrison's eyebrow he cut wide open at work today.

Greg

the 18" drillbit made things a bit easier though!

Greg

I got it bolted up. Just need to fit the carpet around it.

RotorNutFD3S
10-11-2008, 12:22 PM
Sweet! That's the fun part. No real directions for that. Just think about what's going to be visible. I cut in at an angle from the rear and made a small hole when I got to the bar. And continually test fitted and made the hole larger until it fit. Can take away, but you can't really put back.

Greg
10-11-2008, 03:37 PM
Its done.
