View Full Version : What size wheels
What size wheels do you think these are? I'm looking to do the flares with similar wheels.
What offset would they need to be also?

After looking around a bit, it looks like those are modular Panasports. And considering they only come in 13" and 16" diameters, I think we can take a guess at what dia. the ones in the picture are. They must cost a bloody fortune.
The 13"s can be had up to 10" wide and the 16"s can be gotten in a 12". :jawdrop:

Is it just me or do the ones in the picture look staggered?
Stock Miata offset is 45mm. Vary from that by much and it gets really twitchy under braking. The Chapparals on mine are 38mm and even that makes a noticable difference in composure. I'd like to drive one with zero offset wheels on it to see how bad it is.

That is quite possibly the sickest Miata I have ever seen.
thats what I'm planning on doing...
Minus all the name brand parts....

I have SportMax 15x8 002 +0. Came with the car, but the it handles just fine. No twitchiness or anything.
That is Chris Lee's Miata (he's pretty well known in the Miata circle). The outside appearance of that car has been my muse for a long time, my car will soon be sporting the N2 flares, but with different wheels. The engine on Lee's car is something to see too.
You're right on the Panasports. C8 3-piece wheels, sized 16x9 in the front and 16x10 in the rear, both +0 offset. 225/45 Yokohama ES100 up front and 245/45 Yoko AVS Sports on the rear.
Funny thing, I forgot that he's also using Tein coilovers and solid FM front sway bar, which I just bought. lol

Notice the car got an extraction hood after the turbo kit:

never will understand why you get such a wide wheel, and slap a narrow tire on it, heck i was using 245's on a 8" and a 275 on a 9.5" on my old s10

I agree, the tyres should be wider.

Maybe more tire won't fit. Lol.
Pretty nasty stance. One of the most evil Miatas I've seen.

well since he drifts it, the stretch actually makes it a little easier to slide. the sidewall becomes SUPER stiff and makes it very responsive but very unforgiving, allowing it to break loose easier.
plus it looks cooler. lol

If you insist on a near zero offset with the same type eight spoke minilite design
go with Rota RB's in a 15x8 w +4 offset. For about 1/5 of the price of those Panas
you can achieve a similar look.
The modular Panas are very nice however it never made sense to me to put wheels on
my car that cost more then the whole car.

Why is it saying that 15X8 won't fit? I thought you all ran them without rolling the fenders... If not, then they'll fit perfect with the fender flares, right?
And what size tires should I get with 15X8 under flares?
Also, I know that Ground Control "coilovers" are kinda ricey, but how low can you go from stock with them without damaging the strut?

GC coilovers 'ricey'?? Uhh I think Stance, Ohlins, Tein, and the like fit that description more. If you want hardcore 'rice' go with Ebay coilovers!
GCs are a proven setup for Miatas...when paired with shocks to keep up with them. Konis are a fave, and KYB AGXs will work if you want something cheaper. The stock shocks are worn out on your car...the consensus is that 50k is about it. Stock shocks will NOT work with aftermarket springs/coilovers. The best investment you can make in upgrades for your Miata will be in the suspension dept.
And..if youre really worried about rice...stay away from 0 offset rims. ;)
oh well hell, I've always heard that if you lower the car by using GC, it will make the shock start to bottom out more and blow it.
So a set of KYBs with a set of GC will get me as low as I'm wanting? Looking at about $700, right?

Well put it this way...generally, aftermarket springs and coilovers are NOT compatible with stock shocks..and GC are no exception. The spring rates are too high for the wimpy stock shock.
$700ish sounds about right for a GC/AGX setup...depending on where you shop. You may still want to upgrade the bumpstops to some urethane units. Otherwise you will have to cut the OEM units and theyre hard as a rock. Another good trick is to add a different top mount on the rears to keep shock travel. Advanced Autosport has a 'cheap' model for that. OR...you could just spring for the Stance units mentioned in another thread. That would be even better.
I dont know how low you want to go...so cant answer that. Stance will take you lower then what is practical.

They're cheaper at edgeracing.com ...$89/wheel
And WTF....that bigwheels.net wants to charge $270.98 to ship wheels/tires to GA! GTFO.
Yeah, I was going to do the package deal at Edgeracing with the RT615s

It depends on the offset, but there is usually some sort of modification required in any case. +0 like the SportMax, and you'll have to roll/pull the fenders, modify or remove the inner liners, etc. They require a decent amount of work to make them fit.
6ULs:
15x8 195/45 - 195/50 - 205/50 - 215/45 - 225/45 fit standard length dampers no rubbing at all ride heights. 225/45 may require trimming liner with short body coilovers with short body coilovers that allow the suspension to compress further than stock. 225/50 fit NB's fine, NA's require trimming liners with short body coilovers. 225/45 at least -1.25* front camber recommended for the NA, NB's clear with stock alignment.
He also adds that when using flares, spacers are required to fill the arches.
I currently have the SportMax 002s +0 and have 205/50/15s under the flares. The front inner part of the tire will rub slightly under a hard braking turn to the left, but not the right. I've wanted to go with a wider tire on the rear at least, but I also prefer to be able to rotate the tires from front to rear. And my tires don't look stretched either.

+100 for you!
I am so over the cali-drift-fag stretched tire look.
Ideally flared fenders should allow one to run wider
rubber NOT just the same size tire on a too wide
for that size tire rim.

Yep. And the whole point of wider rims is more contact with the road, better handling.
Those kids out in Cali putting 195' on 47" wide rims are modifying their cars to sit, not be driven. I am not in any way a fan of that style.
