Does the car need to be in neutral in order to take the tranny out?

From my experience when pressure plates break it doesn't want to go into gear when it is sitting still and running.

There's any number of things. There's a bracket up top that holds either the wiring harness or a clutch hard line (can't remember), there's the clutch slave, if that's still attached, there's the wires for the reverse and neutral switches... er... I think there's another small bracket a bolt goes through somewhere. What exactly is it doing?

Yeah, be sure you got ALL the bolts. I've forgotten one a couple times and fought with it for 20 minutes before going back and finding out one was still there.
Failing that, get a buddy and wiggle the sum***** up and down until it finally pops free. We wrestled with Marty's transmission for the better part of 45 minutes before it finally came free. And that was on a lift! :S

Put a 2x4"-ish board under the front of the oil pan on top of the rack. That way you aren't wasting motion and have some leverage.

i'm pretty sure i got all the bolts. I can get it out far enough to see the edge of the flywheel.i think some thing is holding it in on the driver side.

there shouldn't *be* anything holding it in on the driver's side. How many bolts on the bell housing did you pull (not including trans mount / slave cyl bolts)?
There should be 11

(the 2 missing bolts, 6 & 9 were the ones I was using to hold the trans on while I got the trans jack under it)

Dumb question, but is the starter still attached?

do i have to take the starter completly off or just the bolts attached to it?

You have to remove all the starter bolts that go through the bell housing.

it's just those 11 bolts right?

Just have to get the car pretty high to fit that w/ the trans on top of it to roll under the car. Read: get good jackstands.

Plus, I borrowed it from a friend, so, you know: cheap as free ;)

hahahaha. Always works. I wish I had one, I was sore for like 2 days after holding it up for 45 or so minutes trying to line it up to put it back in. Taking it out was cake.

Oh, by the way, I have an awesome tool that I stumbled upon in a used transmission I bought that helps lining the input shaft up. I have, for whatever reason, the piece of the prop-shaft that splines onto the output shaft of the transmission, along with maybe 1" of the drive shaft. Someone long ago cut it apparently. Anyway, put the transmission in gear, lift it w/ the trans jack and use the piece of prop-shaft to turn the gears so that you can line up the splines with ease :D

would anyone be willing to come over to my place to help me take my tranny off the rest of the way. Havn't been able to get it off. I can get some pizza and drinks if you want or money. Just need a lil help taking off the tranny and looking into why my clutch is slipping.
