19 to 180 to 60 starting in Daloniga. 180 in paticular is bad *** you might never get out of 2 with your turbo constant (as in non stop) turns for about 18 miles

You know I'm in. Sunday, 7:30ish at the South/East corner of the outlet mall parking lot. That's the corner of the lot you first come to when heading North on 400.

I suggest we depart the parking lot promptly at 7:45am Sunday.

Sweet.

Seems to track ok the wheel does seem to be bent and I will need a new alignment. I would try to straiten it if it where not for the lip damage.

That stinks Chris. If there's anything positive (1) there was no car-to-car contact and (2) your tire looks ok. No flat spots from the skids I take it. :(

LOL I wish the skid was long enough to have flat spots, maybe could have done something about it. But it was a decreasing radius and the only place to go was the rail.

Oblio

so it's MX5Atlanta 0 Guardrail 2. on the + everyone drove home. Honestly with some of the younger drivers, on bad tires, using too much road, I'm surprised we didn't have more issues.

Jack-MX5ATLanta.com

What happened?

Oblio
05-31-2009, 04:39 PM
I think that some there, with out naming names, thought it was more of a race. Trying to keep up (too close) regardless of there capability's or there cars. Other than that the roads where splendid, the traffic was low, and a good time was had most of the way.

Oblio
05-31-2009, 04:44 PM
Moringsifi (whom I know to be a responsible and capable driver) got a little loose in a corner. Hit the guardrail with his quarter panel/bumper. Argo was hot on his tale and trying to avoid hitting Jason, hit the guardrail. This was not what I was referring. too in my last post.

Jack-MX5ATLanta.com
05-31-2009, 04:48 PM
Not playing the blame game here. A couple of scrapped panels is nothing compared to what would have happened if those rails weren't there.

ls1_miata
05-31-2009, 04:58 PM

It is unfortunate that a couple of drivers in the group kissed the guard rail....luckily it was there, as Jack said. Most importantly, no one was injured the damaged sustained is relatively minimal.

It was beautiful day and, aside from the incident, I think we all had an awesome time.

:)

Yea maybe a little too hot on his tail forgetting not everyone has a race tuned suspension and r-comp tires.

It was a nice day and overall I think you guys had a responsible pace. I been with groups I would not go back with because you are there to enjoy the ride not risk your and more importantly others life's but you guys where cool. An early apex on a decreasing radius will get you before you know it.

Kyle it's Kyle right? I'm glad you share our passion for cars, and miatas in particular. You have to understand that I'm looking at this as, a father, husband and someone with 20+ years more driving experience.
Please be wiser than I and learn from my mistakes. The way you drove last Sunday scares me. I'm sure your a fine driver but your judgment is what concerns me, you were trying to keep up with a track prepped car with rain slicks.
I do not claim to be the greatest driver, but I do know that next time I'd rather not be the car next to you.

Guys I am in the S2k Atlanta Club and this is possibly a little misrepresented. He had a tire blow out on a sedate part of road. He was not speeding but he lost control and rolled the car fairly slowly up and embankment. Could have happened anywhere. But yea drives can be dangerous if people push themselves or their machines to the limit. The place to drive within an inch of control is the track. And I think everyone should get to the track because how can you know where the limit is until you test it a few times. And even then on the road you should leave a big margin of safety because of the variables that do not exist on the track but are there when you least expect them on the road.

You know, i've been in more than one situation where a tire has let go...both from a puncture and a complete blowout..and neither case resulted in "loss of control"..the car really didn't even move. I wasn't there..so i'll not pass judgement...but from my own encounters with airless tires...

I had one blow at 75 mph on the interstate... as in complete blow out, pieces flying in the air...

Anyway, I'm not going to say much about this drive but people really need to take the mountains seriously. The one thing I don't get is if there was someone on the drive being reckless, why didn't someone say something? Or did they? I wouldn't hesitate for one second to pull someone aside and tell them they were endangering others around them and I wasn't going to be associated with that. If they didn't want to calm it down, they could find their own way home.

Ben and I both did and I think Lee said something to + we had a big safety talk before the drive. Comes down to 17yo male= no brain

Exactly correct, Chris. Yep, we did say something. And I wouldn't say that the people involved with the guard rail were being reckless at all. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but I'm familiar with their driving, and it is never wreckless. The wrecklessness was someone that actually avoided incident. Nevertheless, that driver will not be welcome to join me when I am on a drive through the mountains.

Jenn, you are correct. The mountains do need to be taken seriously which is why a few of us made mention of safety, it's not a race, go at your own safe pace, etc. Sometimes people don't listen. Perhaps they just don't have respect for the road, their car, or others out there.

We've been on several mountain drives, always at a reasonable and comfortable pace, and never had any incident. Accidents do happen, most of which can be prevented. Sometimes, sh!t just happens. It is unfortunate.

I will continue to drive with those that keep a comfortable and safe distance, respect the road and others around them, and who enjoy a nice, spirited (but not exaggerated), responsible mountain drive.

There have been two others in our club. One went back over front and the other had a face plant into a tree. Having a responsible leader makes all the difference.

Honda S2000 mountain ride a few years ago. Same issues

No NB yet. I have to get some more bills paid off before I make that jump. My s2k is almost done. another set of wheels later in the year and once I get my swaybar back from the machine shop I should be set for a bit. I still would love some KW or AST coilovers.

The NB or NA will be my track machine:)

I hear your car is pretty quick around a track according. Last time I spoke with jeremy, he was interested in getting an NB or something, has he bought one yet?

S2Ks can get squirmy if the tire pressure is even off. Tony is a very representable driver and has no need for speed so I believe him. Maybe if he had more experience or paying better attention he could have saved it but like you said it is easy to be an armchair quarterback.
