So, who does what for work around these parts?

Guess i'll start off.
I do quality assurance testing for ECHOSTAR. What is that? Well, if any of you have DISH, I test the various software updates to make sure they work...so when you want to see whats coming on next week, the guide shows it. Hate pixelated channels? I try to make sure it's not in the software and that when you do see it, it's interference with the sat. What does actually mean though? It means I sit and watch tv ALL DAY LONG. Yes, this also means testing the adult channels to make sure they work too  I also get to know what we are working on for the future...and let me say this... there is goign to be some COOL **** in the near future. Ever hear of SLING? Yeah, we do that too (not me directly though :( ) Is anyone starting to get sick of all the buttons on new tv/cable/sat. remotes? I thought so. You next remote will work more like an i-phone...and that's all i can tell you ;)

Before this, i did laptop/desktop computer repair and support. It was more or less a junior IT job that was all on the job training. I really liked the work because it was expansive and there was always something to learn. Maybe i'll get back into it someday.

I work for Yamaha as a Materials Control Specialist. Basically, along with the group I'm a part of, we make sure that all the parts we need to build our vehicles are getting to the plant on time. At this plant we make the ATVs, WaveRunners, Rhinos, and Golf Cars. We're about to release a super high-performance WaveRunner with a whole new design, and we've made some changes to the Rhinos too.
Going out onto the plant floors is like seeing "How It's Made" in person. It's actually very interesting to see what goes into the production. On top of that, the benefits here are freaking awesome all the way around.

Before this I worked for AutoNation as an Inventory Manager. Now I realize how much that job sucked as I was working anywhere from 60-75 hours a week (usually Mon-Sat) to make what I do now in a Mon-Fri 40 hour/wk job. Plus, no more manual labor. But hey, a job is a job no matter how bad it is. I appreciated even the last one because I had quite a few friends that were not able to get anything for real work.

My job isn't as glamorous as everyone else's :(
I'm a server at the Chili's in PTC. I am basically the customer's slave.
As I would love to get a real 9-5 job, I can't get anything full time until I'm done with school. Which means I'm stuck at Chili's for the next ~2 years.
I guess I can't complain too much, the money is good, but some days I don't make enough for the kinds of customers that I have to put up with.

That's awesome. The perfect stoner job

I work as a Valet Parker at Athens Orthopedic Hospital. I park cars and cripples. I spend nearly the whole time sitting there saying "hello, goodbye" occasionally parking a car but more often than not helping somebody in and out of their car. It's easy as buggery and pays very well. It's just ridiculously tedious especially having done it for a year now. It pays so well for a student $10/hr + some tips.

I also run this place, which recently has taken up more time than my real job!! But I actually enjoy this place. I'm primarily a full time broadcast news student at UGA though.

All of your jobs sound pretty cool. I like, TV, Food and ATV's...so, I'm in good company for sure!
I work for a small sub-contracted drafting company. We use CAD to produce shop drawings and material take-offs for aluminum framed windows and doors for commercial buildings. Our work can be seen anywhere from Miami to Rhode Island, basically, anything on the east coast. Most of our work is in Atlanta. If anyone has seen the new Kumho Tire distribution center somewhere in Henry Co. built a year or so ago, that was me. (I'll post pics later)
I also am Tech Support for a CAD-Based Material take-off software that basically prints an entire part list at the click of a button vs. days of writing it all out by hand.

Saturn of Marietta, parts consultant. Sounds fancy, right? I sit here and goof off on the Internet when we're slow, and when we're not I take orders from retail/wholesale/internal customers, look up and order them their parts, deliver parts, do cashiering, file invoices, and work on keeping the inventory in check. When we're busy I put about 100-175 miles a day on our delivery truck, listening to my iPod with the AC blowing. It's a decent little office. Pay is **** though. Hourly plus commission, and even though our department is the ONLY department to be in the black on a monthly basis, we don't get raises. Everyone else does though.

I also get to put my car up on a lift whenever I feel like it, which is nice when you need to do an oil change. Plus I get to play with cool junk and talk about cars and tuning all day. Somebody please buy a Saturn, we're so slow....

This reminds me of my wife's former occupation...an NICU nurse.
This is a highly skilled nursing profession involving the delivery and care of premature infants...some weighing less then 1 lb.
Her department would make millions in profit, the adminstrators and the like would get a huge salary & bonus...but folks in her position, actually doing the work, would get a thank you letter....oh, and sometimes a free turkey worth about $10!

I'm a Landscape Architect. I work on a variety of projects including landscape, hardscape and pool designs for apartment complexes, downtown streetscape renovations in historic towns and greenway trails. In the past I have done a lot of high end residential design, but my current employer doesn't do much residential stuff. I do everything from preliminary design, cad work, permitting and construction supervision. Unfortuantely, I spend more time behind a desk than outside.

I work at a machine shop that specializes in old school domestic V8s, with an emphasis on big block Ford racing engines (drag, road race, mud trucks, monster trucks, boats, restorods). Usually in excess of 1000hp, carbed, all motor. Sometimes closer to 2000 on the nitrous motors. We have an engine dyno as well. We do all kinds of custom machine work and fabrication.

I've been there for a year and a half and have learned tons, but it's pretty complex (and sometimes backbreaking) work. An iron 460 weighs....well....a lot more than I do. It's fun though. I get to use all the machines, tools, and the lift whenever needed. It's a great place for a gearhead to be. I'll be sticking around there for a good while. :P

I account!

No really, I'm an accountant. Specifically I am the head of accounting for the American division of a European supply chain management software company. My company designs, sells, implements and maintains our own custom software packages for retail businesses of all shapes and sizes. I handle the money. I do it all...the financial statements, monthly taxes, budgetting, payroll, invoicing, AP... everything. I invoice customers for millions in license fees, ten or hundreds of thousands in consulting services and whatever else needs to be done. I prepare the budget and then throughout the year manage pretty much everything that goes into it, decide on how to spend our money and how to save our money. I do a little HR crap here and there as well since our HR department is in France and well, that leaves a few gaps for our local employees sometimes. Also, I occasionally get to go to Europe for meetings. All of my departmental supervisors and colleagues are in Europe so it makes my day easier... no one calls or e-mails me for anything after noon. lol.

I love my job. I have technically been with the company for 5.5 years but only as an official employee in Atlanta for a little over 3 years. I worked at a public accounting firm and did the accounting for my company but on an hourly basis. Once the workload got heavy and the monthly bills got a little high, they decided they needed someone on site and on salary and that person was me. banana

No, AEM bought DC Sports in Jan. of '03 IIRC.
And then DC was sold in Oct. '07. Didn't know that Mitch Williams (guy behind the buying and former SEMA Chairman) was at Pilot though. Hell, didn't know Pilot was Pilot. Which also means he's the one responsible for buying DME and the dying APC line for Pilot.
