Got a Miata making big power? Let's go for a fun run.
(Details coming soon)

Conception Ideas:
*I think we should do this whenever Eric finishes up his car, like a celebration run.
*offer seats for those who are not making big power ;)
*photo or video some for youtube, to show off mx5atlanta.
*Run to begin in the morning so we get lots of top down time when it's not hot
*'Special consideration' given to certain cars that may not meet the power requirement but are highly prepped and able to keep up

I agree on all stated points of the concept. Would like to offer 2 more

Thank you. I feel special now. :)
My car should be done (again) by Friday. I'll be running it with no mufflers (just the downpipe, cat, and long 3" pipe) until I can get it up to Jason to fix the duals. But that will be the only thing mechanical left to finish.

I'd like to participate in this, as well. While I don't meet the power requirements, I have a decent suspension setup with sticky tires. I'm relatively certain I can keep up through the twisties. ;)
Plus, I'm one of the few NCs on the forum. AND...I have stripes that add a TON of power. :D
While my photography skills are...well, novice, I would still be happy to take plenty of pics.
I've stated my case.

Is all that power really going to help on the mountains? Seems to me it's more about skill and grip, but mostly skill. For example, last time I went to the gap there were some turbo guys that could not hang with me, but James dean who has been driving up there for like...40+ years, showed up in a 100% stock miata and I could not touch him, despite having more power, better suspension and tires.

That pretty much sums it up accurately.
A good driver in stock Miata > mediocre driver in 250 hp Miata.

I like mountain runs. While I completely agree that speed has a lot to do with skills (and stupidity on public roads, which I get high marks for :D ) a stock miata will not be able to keep up with me on any section besides something like that really tight part of GA180.
Anyone thought about getting a TGP track day together this summer?

I was being a smart a$$. Used to fly through there on bikes for about 20 years. I love those roads, and have learned to respect them. And the locals too. I have hit about 165mph on that specific piece of road many a time, I'm embarrassed to say. We used to use it as our local race track before actually taking it to the track permanently. That particular stretch, although in the other direction, is responsible for my trashed R1 and my trashed spine. Doh!
What has happened, is that my idea of "fast" up there has changed. I am ALWAYS going "slow" up there, even when I drift the car through a turn or two... :D

I'm with you Jack. Once you take it to the track, it's hard to go back. There are too many variables on the street. No matter how fast you think you're going, once you take it to the track, it'll seem slow in comparison.

Dude, a run going up the mountain on 129 from Turner's Corner is ridiculously fun. And if you're not accustomed to the corner speeds at 2+ Gs in those banked turns, it becomes a puckering experience.

I can't agree more. After driving on the track the street is not only a poor substitute but its also too dangerous. No matter how good a driver you are there is no way you can foresee the danger just around the next turn, especially in the mountains.
I know I have mentioned if before but it is worth saying again. I personally know 3 people that have died in the last 4 years in mountains. You guys just take it easy.

+ 1 billion on keeping it on the track. Public roads are too dangerous - you might be in control, but it's hard to account for that person that pulls out in front of you, is on their phone and not paying attention, etc.
I'm in 100% for a day at TGPR. IIRC, they charge about 10% of what we would pay at Road Atlanta - should be able to get it on a weekday for $1500.

Cost depends on the day the track is rented. It's cheaper for mon-thursday, even more for sat/sun. So got the cheapest day, it will have to be on a week day.
3. Street Car Tune & Test $1,500.00 Weekday, $2,600.00 Fri, Sat or Sun
Up to 12 participants. +$100.00 surcharge for each additional car
Max 3 cars on track at one time
No aggressive passing
No timed laps
Minimum 4 corner workers recommended
What might be a good deal is 15 people on a weekend, it equates to ~$195/person..which is still inexpensive for a weekend trackday with a TON of track tome.

Thats not a mountain road. Neals Gap hwy 60 is a real mountain road. A LS will barely get out of 2nd for a good 15 minutes.

I've driven hwy 60 and 180 (which is much tighter than 60) many times in my LS1 Miata. The video is from US19 which completes a loop with 60. I do believe most people would call it a mountain road since it goes up a mountain... I assume you have a LS miata and drive up there often, thus explaining your knowledge of said car and road?

Or a 2008 Audi S5..you know, V8 6 speed quattro. Just saying, through neals gap, torque helps and makes it more fun on the climb, but power doesn't mean anything. If it's as wide open as your video clip, I don't call that a mountain run, more like a mountain cruise.

are there any plans made to go to lil tally gp track? i want to really work my suspension and find its limits in a controlled environment. 110% is not practical in any shape form or fashion on public roads. i also would like to see if just my suspension would allow me to keep up with modded motor cars. how much is it and is there a date set already? i'd need a helmet right and make sure it's track worthy (saftey wise)

I fully intend to sort one out for us but I have no experience on the track or organising one so I'm trying to get in on someone elses before I try and set one up for all of us. Now that I'm working the weekday deals are harder for me to try and get in on.
