With BMWs, it's never really the parts that cost so much, it's the maintenance.

Meh, guess you can hang around. :P If ever there was a car whose spirit was kindred to the Miata, the E30 is it. Have fun with it. The B25 is a nice sounding engine.

over the years bmw has consistantly produced the best sport sedans on the market. while i loved my e30's, i prefer e36's as daily drivers. the m cars are the best of the breed, and you'll spend a lot of money to get a typical 3 series to get to the level of performance that an m3 starts at. but lately though i've been daydreaming about picking up a $500 bimmer for the entertainment factor - maybe a big six e12 or even throw a turbo on an e21.

not true at all. shocks & springs, tires, and i/e isnt really ALOT of money. as far as e30s go, the m3 was only 4 tenths faster 1/4 mile.
and i know you guys are just screwing around. i will always have love for miatas, i just want an e30 right now. banana

I think he was talking mainly about the e36 onwards. The e30 M3 asides from having the looks of an evil ninja wasn't much faster in a straight line. I've been told the 325is' are btter value for money.

The E30's M20 can easily trounce the S14 with bolt-ons. Not nearly as tempermental as the big four either.

i was contemplating an m60 swap for this car (4.0 v8 from e32 7 series) but gas > REAL FAST CAR.

Two of my three E30 325is's ran aftermarket suspensions, pads, and sticky tires. They were nearly as quick as a stock E30 M3, but lacked the feel and finesse. The numbers don't tell the story - drive an E30 M3 on the track back to back with another E30, and you'll see what I mean.

A friend of mine who runs a shop and works on a lot of BMWs has a E30 with full E30 M3 suspension bits and the thing hauls *** around RA. He also has a E30 with a E block and I head running a lovely turbo that ran 11.3 up at Commerce:cool:

well, before i signed any titles of did anything, we met up at the kroger in cumming. we then drove to the guys apartment complex because he left the title there, and as matt and i get out of the car and pop the hood we notice a HUGE amoung of oil POURING out of the car. an oil line going to the oil cooler had come loose, and it was spewing out from there. so after looking at it and trying to figure out WTF happened, we tightened it back up and went on about our business, dismissing it as a freak accident. so as were pulling into the bank so the guy could get me some cash to throw on the deal (40 bucks...) THE FVCKING INTAKE FALLS OFF. it had some ghetto cone filter on it, and it had come completely off, ripping the IACV boot that was already taped on. so we just put it back on, anticipating a new intake when we took it to OPM to do the interior stuff. so we get there and throw on a stock airbox, along with cleaning the **** out of the car and throwing most of the interior together. we fix the intake and the IACV boot and stuff, wash the car, throw on a set of bottlecaps to replace the 2 basketweaves that are on the car and we eventually leave. we take buford dam road home, and it looks like its about to storm like a ***** off in the distance, so i decide to MAKE SURE the windshield wipers work, and guess what? they dont. so we pull over and jiggle some wires around, and they work. we think, wtf okay cool, lets go. so we BARELY make it to the qt @ 20 and 985, and get gas. luckily we didnt hit any rain on the way home, because this is where the wipers stop working. we attempt the wire jiggle again, but to no avail. they work, but only when you use the squirters. :wtf:. so we keep going, and as were pulling into my friends driveway, i notice the steering rack/tie rods popping VERY loudly. :wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf::wtf:.
not to mention the car pulls VERY hard to the right, is loud as ****, etc, etc.
hopefully i can get this resolved tomorrow. im gonna ask him to trade back, and ill leave the interior and all the work i did today in it. i feel like a dumbass for even thinking this was a good idea. hopefully this works out and i can hold on to the miata for a while longer.
i feel like i just cheated on my GF and i feel really really ****in guilty. lol

Uhhh you had two warnings right there. When you roll up and ANY car strikes you as a POS, thats not a freak accident, it is. Its best to keep moving...unless youre buying it for parts. Hate to say it but you should have said thanks anyway and left in your Miata. I would expect a trade back will be problematic.
Oh, and one more piece of advice from an old guy whos bought TONS of cars...dont ever get emotionally hooked into wanting a car, make, model etc. That ALWAYS leads to bad deals. Ya got to keep your wits about you.
Hope it works out for you.
But if not maybe Tom will let you work overtime.

haha yeah, i know its my own fault. but the guy i bought it from seems like a really good guy and hopefully he will be okay swapping back, especially since i put all the interior in the car, etc.

Is the E30's body and paint relatively decent? It wouldn't be a lost cause to just try to fix some stuff if the guy doesn't want to trade back. Steering rack, alignment, windshield wiper wiring...It doesn't sound like the end of the world.

yeah, the body is straight aside from not having a front bumper, but those arent hard to find really. the thing im most worried about is the wiring...

havent heard from him today, but i think i might keep this car after all. i put it on my lift today and the bottom of the car is PERFECT, the rack and ball joints are good. the noises i was hearing are from the control arm bushings, theyre ~30 bucks and pretty easy to replace. it needs a new cv axle because the boot is GONE, but the replacements are like 90 DOLLARS and the core is worth 75!! and you guys said parts are expensive... lol

I hope things work out but you need to be a little more savvy with future negotiations. It shouldn't matter whether he's Hitler or Ghandi, it's about the car and not the guy you get it from. A Bill of Sale should have been filled out by both parties too, I always thought you needed them to get the cars titled in each others name.
I'm sure you'll get it fixed up alright, hopefully nothing else we go amiss.
