My puppy, Bentley, is currently in surgery, getting his bone chopped in half  One of his front paws has been slowly rotating outward due to some growth problems in his lower leg, "angular limb deformity." From what I understand, they are cutting the bowing bone, and letting it rotate back and regrow on its own. Crazy.

It's good he's being fixed up, but 4-6 months of recovery means no more playtime for the little guy, and at least 3 weeks of crate confinement

Aww i hate crating dogs, its for his own good though. Got any pictures of this deformity?

That sucks, but on the bright side, at least he had someone willing and able to correct the problem. Chin up! Time flies, he'll be chasing sticks and squirrels in no time!

Get well Bentely. He must be an English breed. ;) Oh, and my car suffers from the same thing.

He's out of surgery already, and the paw is already starting to rotate back into position. Apparently it went well

He's certainly no English breed  We just thought it was a funny name for such a goofy looking dog. I couldn't find a picture showing too much of the deformity; it's most noticeable when he is standing still, which is not something that happens when the camera is out :p You can sorta see in the attached pic though.

Well, the recovery didn't go as planned. The 4mm gap between chopped bone ends didn't close up, so he had another surgery yesterday.

I just picked him up an hour ago. Metal plate, six screws, and synthetic bone graft to hopefully help it come together. We'll see how the recovery process goes this time. Fingers crossed.

Our cat "Marty" managed to dislocate his hip about 3 months ago. He walked with a limp for a day or two, but then stopped for about 4 days. So we thought he'd just pulled a muscle. Then the limping began again, and after taking him to the vet we learned that he'd managed to grind away his entire socket with the head of his femur. In the space of a week!

You'd think we'd notice how bad it was before then, but the little guy was still climbing trees, jumping on couches, attacking me when I was wearing shorts. Everything. Just a mild limp the whole time.

So he had surgery to file away the ball of his femur and basically eradicate the whole joint. He almost fully recovered and the vet says he will walk normally after he heals fully.

Even now I just saw him bail out of a tree from like 8-9 feet up. I'll be paying for more hip surgery in no time.

I'm rambling, the point is that animals are pretty resilient. I bet Bentley will be up and running before you or the vet think. Get well soon, Bentley.

I'm just hoping the next 4 months will be a bit easier than the past 4. It's been nearly impossible to keep him calm and still!

Poor little guy.

My dog screwed up his foot pretty badly a few years back. He required surgery to repair his ripped tendons and suchers. He occasionally will limp on that leg still, but it's never held him back. I figure his surgery cost 1% of what it would cost do perform a similar procedure on a human.
