View Full Version : Wheel idea.... yay or nay....

Well, im getting the itch to change things up. I've had these wheels for awhile and would like to do something different. I figure if i paint them, it'll keep my interest in keeping them...otherwise i have to go through the whole ordeal of buying new wheels lol.
I can't decide between light or dark....

Dark. It's subtle, but yet it's there enough to make a statement and go along with the car really well.

I like light. How about white with a clear coat? I'm suggesting this to everyone for everything at the moment

I think I agree with Jesse. Red would complement the car better.

IDK about red guys. There is nothing red on the car besides the tail lights. Plus the interior is black/blue.

When i was playing with PS, i did all kindas of colors... purple, red, pink, yellow , orange, light blue, color matched grey, brown.... i honestly though most of the colors looked cool. But like Eric said, my interior is 10AE blue and black.. so red is out of the question unless i swap to a red/black MSM interior

Never know, someone might "vandalize" your car, and "steal" the interior, and you might have to go that route.

Nah, i wouldn't do a red/black MSM interior.. i don't want mine to be confused with a MSM (nothing agianst them, i just need to be more unique). If i had the chance, i'd get the REAL Mazdaspeed seats though. I'm actually very happy with my interior .....although i have thought about changing all of the silver trim bits to black.

I like the idea of painting them. Because your car is mainly neutral colors, I'd stick to a darker color like you posted. If your car was white like your NA, you'd have a lot more options (parital reason why I want a white one).

I bet if i give it a light coat of the metalcast blue, it'll give a nice effect.... if not, i'll do the same blue i did on another set of wheels i just sold. But then I wonder, do i keep the fake rivets 'chrome' or do i paint them blue too? hmmmm
MeFryRice
09-22-2008, 10:59 AM
I would keep the rivets chrome otherwise the wheel will look cheap. :(
JennB
09-22-2008, 10:59 AM
lol... i've even thought about that, but the idea got struck down by Jenn
Because your car is metallic and the white is flat. I also think the white would stand out too much and the wheels would over shadow the car. Like they would be so bright white and the car so soft and gray. Also, cleaning white wheels is a nightmare.

I do think that the white is nice and stark...standoutish, but against the titanium... i dunno. I'll put some more p-shops up when i get home. I think a set of white Rota slipstreams would look great because of their style, but i dunno about the style of the D2's in white. Decisions, decisions.

I wouldnt do anything with white, even blue is better as you already have some blue accents.
Adding more colors only makes things look ricetastic and 'busy' IMHO...a look that I am never a fan of.
I would reduce the amount of colors/finishes used if anything, or stick with the three you have, black, blue, & titanium. .02 :)

09-22-2008, 12:50 PM
I think that's what I've been saying all along
I think the car looks fine how it is. It's classy, well put together, it flows, everything works nicely with every other piece. Nothing stands out and draws attention to one place.. it's a total package.

Yeah, i dunno about the blue lips. Besides, i did a bit of test painting with the metalcast blue and so fat it's looking like what i was expecting. But, i have yet to test it on something polished/light... but after using the metalcast green, it's hard to get a thin even coat.
This will def. be a day long project as i need to take all of the rivets out and then glue them back in.

I don't like most of them, well, they might be cool in person, but by god they suck at the internets. Also, consensus on CR is that the blue wheels are a bad idea... so obviously that means i need to do them because it's not cool among their little trends.
RotorNutFD3S
09-23-2008, 12:33 PM
Well, they'd as soon have you rust your car out, have red rims, and slam it so bad the wheels are almost horizontal. Oops, and I forgot, a shifter extension out of an 18-wheeler, and probably strip most of the interior except some cheap seats.
At least that's what I get out of that place somedays.

When you decide to build a car, you have to build something that you like, not worry about what others around you think of it. If this was the case, every car on the boards would look identical with no individuality. I'm sure I'll do some things to my NA which people might not favor but at the end of the day, it's my car so who cares. Right?
I have to admit, I do like some of the ideas found on CR but I've also noticed that most of that crowd tend to lean towards the "EMO" side of things, not really my kind of group I like to associate with.
Oh and yes, my car will be dumped, just an FYI so you guys can already start the hate parade. :D

I try to understand some of the things out there... but **** like purposefully rusting your car, or the busted hood crap or 195's on 8" wide wheels or ruining perfectly good body panels with flat black just perplex me and i cannot see any "creativity" in it. As ofr low cars, i like low... low is good, but when you have to plan your trip around speed bumps and parking lot entrances, it's becomes completely useless and opposite from anything functional :(

In general, when someone builds up something and has a half bit of common sense, there can be plenty of creativity and people will generally accept it. But when you take a 25 yr old Honda Accord, paint it with spray paint, buy pep-boys chrome spinner hub caps and strip the interior thinking it's a race car... obviously you fail at concept and execution.

None taken. The car came with them, and now I want something more aggressive, because I like the look, it's different, and keeps me distinuished from other Miatas.
It's like I was telling Steven's (LagunaRoadster) dad at the meet, the typical FMII turbo Miatas are popping up everywhere, apparently there's a red one locally that is turbo'd, flared, and with 002s, so friends are calling me asking if I got the car done. That means it's time to change things up again. :) I guess I like to try to stay a step ahead of the game.
