I'm currently co-driving my friend's '06 MX-5 in CSP (#96), but I have a '92 that I'm hoping to get built for STS2 by next season.

We're always there. The night events have been a blast and a nice break from the awful weather that plagued the morning events earlier in the season. Only downside is not being able to take may pics but I got a few good ones at the first night event a while back.

The biggest drawback of the ALMS one's are the location for me. I don't like how long it takes to get there and the amount of time in between runs due to the go-karts and etc. But having said that, when one finally does get to run... it's hard to beat.

Yeah.. it's really, really far and as much as I am supportive of the young drivers, it's absolutely painful to wait for them sometimes. It's not bad when there are just a couple but when they all show up... ouch. Last even they posted the rule of no sharing equipment like helmets and suits so hopefully that will change the wait time some. I think it's great to see them out there though.

They also need to ditch the go karts, they have their own places to run those things.

I think it's great they're given the chance. I wish I was. But regardless, I swear there are plenty of kart specific events out there, I'm fairly sure that all the people who made their name karting didn't do it at autox. I just think it's unfair on everyone else it leaves waiting.

There was a big discussion on soloatlanta about this and the carts aren't going anywhere but I think they really are trying to make the runs move faster. Maybe they could run the carts first and get it out of the way or something. I mean, the SCCA says they are allowed and the parents are really into it as are the kids so those us us left waiting really don't have anything we can do other than hope that the regional directors can make it more efficient.

its mainly a problem at the night events, during normal events most of us have already run in the morning, but running them all at the start and no sharing of equipment will keep it moving, we had alot of delays due to timing at the last event with karts, so it wasnt just them spinning out and stalling etc etc

The carts are a pain but many of the parents are a big part of Team Solo and contribute a lot to the entire program.

The karts are great. In GA you don't have much karting. We had ONE track, and Road Atlanta at the end of the year. Some of our Atlanta area drivers started in karts and dominated. I was going to run in the class when I had a kart but started cars when I was fifteen and saw no need in it.

Yep.
Last event actually went pretty well with them all being shotgunned through at the start of the event. Heyward (fearless leader) and Tim (novice chief, parent of a karter) were waiting on the atv with the trailor in case anything happened. Which it did. Corrie (Tim's daughter) spun at the big sweeper coming around to the end of the course and it popped her chain off. They came zooming in on the atv ready with the restarter. Told'em it was the chain and so we just lifted the kart onto the trailer, drove off course and radio'ed in for the next car to be launched. bam.
I think they're going to be evenly dispersed through the whole first run group next event though. It's too hot to keep them in their suits that long (one kid went to the hospital afterwards with heat exhaustion after the last event) and they don't get any time in between runs to calm down and talk about what they did wrong/right on their previous runs.

Why dont we start our own Auto X events sanctioned by our club.

we could even do track events at Road Atlanta. for example on week days the track rental rate go way down after 5 pm you could get a good three hours of time in for next to nothin.

If you can get track time at Road Atlanta - PM me.
I would be all over it. Have driven it twice, and will be doing so again in Dec.

Most affordable track time you will get for a club is TGPR (little Talledega). With a 12 person max - 3 on track at a time- weekday rental is around 1500$. For under 150$ dollars each you end up with about 2 hours on track.

Granted, its not Road Atlanta. But I had no idea you could rent RA after 5pm. Any link to the info??

Depends... if someone has a trust fund to pay insurance and lot rental fees, and to buy cones and timing equipment...

Hell, I'll come play! ;)

Yeah, this would be why most autocrosses are run big ole' organizations like the SCCA and BMWCCA.

TGP is a great place to rent during the week, agreed. It's cheap. easy, fun, not too far of a drive and it's just a nice little track.

Agreed. When we rented TGP, by 3pm I had over 2 hrs track time and was worn out. We ran set groups before lunch based on experience, but after lunch, we just switched up, played lead-follow, ran long sessions, short sessions, whatever. The track owners didn't give a hoot as long as it was less than 3 on track and no more that 2 off's per car.

Yeah, it takes a lot of behind the scenes work (and money, and time) by a lot of (usually) volunteers to put these on. Unfortunately they don't just happen by themselves, as that would be a hellofalot easier ;).

That sounds like the ultimate get-together. We should definitely line that up in the future.

I'll check on the total amounts. the guys I do the track time with are a race team/ tuning shop but they go out twice a month and there is really no limits to how many are on the track at any time and you can go as long as you want. all total I got 4 hours track time for $650.

I'm not looking to discourage anybody ( I usually do this track a couple times a year when I can ), just want to inform. TGP is very hard on tires.

I'm interested in running but I have no idea what class I'd run in. Can someone tell me? All I have is a RB intake, team dynamic wheels, and BFG g-sports. I'm not looking to really win anything I just want to have fun in my car.

STS2 :)

You should run novice the first time or 2, as you get a couple extra runs and an instructor to help you out :)
