Just started up the 96 after getting the new clutch in. Backing out of the driveway I heard a high pitched... almost a whistle coming from or around the turret/gearbox area.

It's not clutch chatter because of where it's coming from. It even happened after I started the car in neutral and went away when I shook the shifter..

Any ideas? I kinda like it. It's funny. The guy buying probably will not.

did you replace the through out bearing. Cause that can make a high pitched sound.

haha thanks guys. I did replace the throw out bearing. I don't think it's that. I thought it was weird that it went away when I moved the shifter a bit.

Neutral clutch in or neutral clutch out?

I only drove it around a bit since it was late last night but from what I recall it was clutch in and clutch out. The RPMs didn't seem to be affected so I don't think it's something with the clutch grabbing a little bit.

Usually squealing noises are either TO bearing or the pilot bearing.
Sitting for periods without being driven seems to be an enemy of both.

Would running it and getting the bearings turning eventually make the sqeak go away? Or i am just thinking like an ignorant redneck?
