Thanks for the good luck everyone. I got the word an hour ago and I get to keep my job!!!
However, its very difficult to celebrate when I know other people are gonna get screwed. Even though its out of my hands, its tough watching someone else have to go through it. We have all worked together for a long time. :(
Are they reacting to poor sales? Or something else?
Poor everything. The company seemed to stop caring about customer service or keeping everyone happy. Their decisions have shown that they do not look outside of numbers up at the corporate office. Business has been down, but up compared to last years numbers. Prices have gone up, but customers do not like it. Its a mixture of bad things, and this economy isn't helping either.

First off, congrats...
Second, I think this is Business 101 now for most MBA programs. We've totally moved from a "customercentric" to "screw them discreetly" method of business. We push out "improved" products every 6 months and the only improvements are designed to deliver less to the customer while increasing or keeping the price the same. Sorry, but less at the same $$ = screwage in my book.
In my opinion, businesses today don't concentrate on supplying a good product at a reasonable price and fighting for market share. They put out the cheapest POS they can to satisfy big box retailers' profit goals and hope they can ride on the 900lb gorilla's back to profitability.
Alright damit! Who kicked open the barn and stole my horses!!!

It's odd to hear about people talking about paycuts and/or being scared of being laid off. I got a call from my boss yesterday, who just got requisition approval for hiring new people in my field of work. He called me up to ask about what he should look for in people with a military background as far as my field goes.
Granted my job isn't the easiest or nicest in the world, but the pay is nice and I get to travel a lot. I work for Honeywell in their Process Solutions department as a Project Specialist in the Pulp and Paper Industry. I enjoy it because it relies on my electronics and electrical training from the Navy and I get to work with my hands on some mechanical work too. Friggin' awesome!
Edit: found the culprit....

This morning I discovered that the Miata is the least gay car of all time.
I was sitting in the bank waiting in line for the teller. Now, at this particular branch the line for the walk up ATM runs directly alongside (and quite near to) the line for the teller. Well, I glance over towards the walk-up line and there, in a tight pair of yoga pants, is one of the finest asses of all time. Better yet, it's about three feet away and perfectly eye level.
Now, if I'd had been in some redneck truck I would have had to look down and not gotten the most perfect view of where cheek meets leg. Also, having tinted windows helped because there was no worry of being caught. What a great way to start the day.
In Other News: I suppose I'll find out shortly if my girlfriend ever lurks on here.

I woke up this morning thinking I would install the 10AE wheel that I have had for a while in my car since my stocker is really starting to come a part ( stitching is shot). So I drive to the storage unit and I spent about an hour looking around for it with no luck finding it. I really hate not having a garage of my own anymore. I can't find any of my car stuff or tools since I have everything that was in my garage plus stuff from the apt stuffed into the smallest unit I could cram it all in. The car business really needs to pick up so I can start making some real money again and get my own place and get away from living with family.

Congratulations good sir!
So next year is my 10 year high school reunion. To help organize the thing they've started a facebook page to ask for suggestions and comments. Now my graduating class is broken into three groups. Group 1 wants to have it at a bar, group 2 wants a family style cookout, and group 3 wants to take a ****ing cruise.
Personally I don't care because I'm not going, I don't see the point. But I went ahead and trolled a bit to break up a boring day. I explained that a cruise is an awful idea because most people arent going to have the time or money and also because no one wants to be stuck on a boat for a week with people they would avoid at Wal Mart.
I have now been disinvited from my HS reunion for being "rude."

What's going on with the MX5Atlanta Track Rental Car? It would be cool to have a few of of those.
Reading some of the posts on miata.net motorsports section got me thinking. Someone said they wished more of their miata club autocrossed. For those of you that have tried autocrossing in the past, but no longer attend, what turned you off? Was it classing reasons? How long did you stick with autocross?
I love autocross, but seat time per dollar is not good enough in my opinion. But then again, there's not much out there that can compare so I still go when I can.

Seat time per dollar/seat time in general. The ARSCCA is a victim of its own success. They're a really top notch unit but that's exactly what the problem is for me now - too much time picking up cones!
The MX5 car is at a bit of a hiatus at the moment. Need to pick up a part for it and it might no longer be a site car but a fun car with some of the plans we may have for it.

I know Redraceface said he's hoping to start holding his own events starting October this year. I'm hoping to start holding events as well, but it may not be for a while. I've been to the Atlanta SCCA events and know it takes a lot of manpower, but the demand is there.

Waiting on funds to get a new motor. It'll probably happen end of the month depending on what I hear back from my engine guy.
I had paid off more than I thought on my amex so I'm in a pretty good position to buy one outright and then pay it off over time which would make life a whole lot easier since the suby gets better mileage than the miata and can carry more than my skinny *** and two bags of groceries. So I was just looking at our fleet at work and trying to determine if we can take some of our high mileage cars and switch them to routes closer to the hub and it was an ugly sight. I guess I have never really sat back and looked at the entire list, but we only have 10 vehicles with less than 400K miles, and half of those are in the 300's. In total the atlanta fleet which is currently only 31 cars has 11,676,888 miles on it. I think we need a few new cars.
The crazy thing is that most of them keep on running. We get blown motors and serous issues every now and then but for the most part we fix them and they keep on working. It's sometimes hard to argue with no car payments...

Re: places like Austin TX, when I see terms like 'fastest growing' I see a giant red flag.
Pretty much anytime there is an explosion of growth there follows a bursting bubble that leaves many holding the bag.....aka Atlanta.
I would much rather see 'slow steady growth', 'consistent' etc
Atlanta's explosion of growth and subsequent bursting bubble has cost me tens of thousands, hundreds even. While the slow consistent steady growth of my previous location netted me a reasonable sum in a reasonable time. My friends who experienced the explosion of growth in New England some years back all ended up in bankruptcy or losing severely when the bubble burst. This is a cycle that seemingly constantly repeats itself.

I saw The Egg today, looked ok from the angle I first saw but then I saw the front end, apparently they hit something, crumpling the "hood" and shattering the headlights. Their fix was buying a set of rectangle fog lights and bolting them to the front bumper, which wasn't messed up, so maybe they went under something. We had that van since I was a little kid so it was kinda sad to see it like that. There are times I miss it, even if it wasn't the most fun thing to drive. lol

So get this. My laptop's keyboard is finally giving out. When I press m j or u I usually just get a stream of letters.
So I hop online and order a new keyboard, costs $20, shows up in two days, I'm happy. This morning I take the thing apart to replace the keyboard but it doesn't work like that. The keyboard it riveted to the top case of the computer and you need the entire unit. So I contact the company and tell them that I need to return the keyboard. They say they won't do it because it's not their fault I bought the wrong thing. Well, I explain that they advertised it as a replacement for my exact model. But they say "The keyboard we sold you is the keyboard in that computer"
So I explain to them that yes, it's the proper keyboard, but it's not a replacement part because it CAN'T BE REPLACED!
She said "I'm sorry" and hung up.

Ramble part A - just spent an hour sitting in a hot parking lot. I accidentally stuck the key to my GS in the ignition of the IS. In any other car this wouldn't be a major problem - just put the right key in and away you go. In a Lexus though - big problem.
When I put the correct key in the ignition wouldn't turn. Reading up on this issue online, it could be either an electronic security issue or a mechanical issue. Apparently Lexus has some anti-theft technology that prevents a car from being started if the incorrect key is put into the ignition. The fix for that is to unhook the battery for 30 minutes.
It could also be a mechanical issue - putting the wrong key in can screw up the pins in the lock and prevent it from turning properly. I put some WD-40 on the key and wiggled it around for a bit - eventually got it to turn. Suck!
Ramble B - assault: the crime I would be charged with if I ever find out who cut the radio harness out of my '92. A simple head unit swap turned into hours of researching the Miata wiring harness, soldering, etc. Suck 2!

I no numerous people that have so many problems with android phones. They call people randomly or text the wrong person. My sisters boyfriend has had many different phones and he always ends up with the IPhone.
But all bias aside (I'm actually not a huge apple fanboy) Apple has some of the best customer service in the world. If you call their support you get americans living in the U.S. unlike most company who send you to india.

My only problem ever with Apple customer service has been the complete disconnect between them and their "authorized service centers."
I call Apple, I tell them my problem, they say it will be fixed, I take the item to my local service center, and those people promptly inform me that they will not fix/replace anything for free. I get them to call Apple, the dude disappears for a half hour and he comes back with the same answer.
However if you go to an Apple store it's fixed almost instantly.

I'm also thankful for the android/pc guys out there. They're so desperate to prove that their phone/computer is better than apple's that they want to jump on any defect, any mistake, any tiny nuance and try and spoil Apple's reputation. That's why Apple has to do it right, the first time, and when they don't they fix it immediately.
So thanks to all the Apple haters out there. If it werent for you guys I wouldn't get the products and services that I'm used to.

The people who take defending their brand further than Drew, for either side, are the ones who really make me laugh about the whole thing. I get brand loyalty, it's a good thing, it keeps me employed. But personally I'm happy if I feel that I got my money's worth, it does what I need it to, and it doesn't break or act up, regardless of the logo on the casing. I tried both my phone and the iPhone and saw pros and cons with each but found that they were overall very comparable, so the price point won, and my phone hasn't caused me a single issue yet. I'm a happy customer. If there had been something that I really disliked with the Android, I'd have an iPhone, it's that simple for me.

My main gripe with Apple is not that their products are no good, just that they are often way overpriced and not competitive. They have done a great job selling their brand, especially to brand wh0re types. They sell on hype. When I can buy something else thats just as good for much less it doesnt make sense to me to pay for their stuff.
Example: I can buy a $250 IPod, or I can buy the same thing from Sansa for $100.
IMO only a fool would pay an extra $150 for a logo/name.
On a side note, I have been rocking a Sansa MP3 player for several years. In that same time some of my friends who bought equivalent IPods had them take a sheit on them, or had battery or other issues. My player still works as new.

I disagree on overhyped/overpriced crap. Sure you can get cheaper alternatives but the Apple products do tend to be better. I used to hate on 'em all the time but truth be told they are just better. Not a problem though, competition is always good for prices/development.
I've beaten the crap out of my iphone and it won't stop. Love it and have no desire to change really. Everything I want/need doing - it does.

Any computer people here?
I need to build a new computer, but I am stuck on what CPU to go with. I am on a tight budget so I am looking at either the phenom II 840 in an AM3+ mobo, or intel's i3 2100. The sandybridge chip will cost me about $38 more with the cpu and mobo combo, but it give me the upgrade path to a 2500k in the future. The AMD option would allow me to upgrade to the future, but unproven bulldozer chip.
What do you guys think?
qualcon

Friday,
I'd stick with AMD for bang for the buck. You might want to consider the AMD Phenom II X2 555 BE. It's a quad core that's locked and sold as a dual core by locking the cores to 2. It's cheaper for AMD to do it this way since it's 1 design for all the chips in each family. At the same time, it's only a bios setting to unlock the cores again for some motherboards. 3 cores is pretty much guaranteed, but most get both unlocked to have all 4 cores. The X2 also has a lot L3 cache that the 840 doesn't have, but I'm not sure if 3 cores with L3 is faster than 4 cores without the L3. My guess is that it would be faster though until software takes better advantage of more cores. I just checked newegg, and it's less than a $20 difference between the 2. I'd take the 555, but maybe you want to research more.
I wouldn't get an i3. If going with intel, the i5 is the better bang for the buck. Some software (like office) is optimized for intel, so what you plan to use it for may be part of the consideration.
I hope this helps. Nice seeing you at the NSTC too.
In general, best bang for the buck is the lower models of the top tier, 1 or 2 generations back. The top budget video cards wil get destroyed by a 2 generation older top tier model, kind of how the best all season tires aren't even close in grip compared to lower tier, dedicated summer tires.
I used to buy parts that have upgrade potential, but for how fast technology is jumping, you'd still want to upgrade the other parts in favor of newer technology. My previous 3 computers, took upgradability into consideration, but in the end, getting all new stuff was cheaper. Like right now, 4 gigs of DD3 is a third to half the cost of the older ddr2. Once any company ramps up production, parts start getting ridiculously cheap. Blank DVD's and most forms of memory/storage are kind of like that now. Not sure how long it'll take for bluray to really come down in price though.
Nice talking with you at the NSTC by the way. I hope this helps. GL.

Car lifts are a lot of money but if you have a garage that can support one I think it would be totally worth the investment. I rather have a two post style than a four post but either one would be great.

Lots of good information
Thanks for the help. I am getting similar advise from techreport.com's forum also. For stability reasons I think I will go with the x4 955 Black edition. It is only $15 more than the 840, is a bit faster, and offers the ability to OC if I feel so inclined. For the mobo I am going with the asus m5a97 EVO, which has an AM3+ socket. GPU wise I am going with an asus made 6870, which should pack enough power for a couple of years (hopefully). Either way the AM3+ socket mobo should offer me upgrade options to last many years, which is the important part.
NSTC was a fun event. Hot, but nice getting in 6 runs throughout the day. I am excited for points 8.

Attention phone nerds! :)
RE: Android phone, specifically LG Optimus if that matters.
What is the best call block app or method?
The phone will direct 'blocked' calls to voice mail, but some of the apps
tried dont seem to connect and hang up as they are supposed to. They only dump to voice mail which the phone does without the app, so thats useless.
One even connects without the user being notified and allows the caller
to listen to whatever is going on where the phone is. That is TOTALLY horrible, worse even then just answering the unwanted caller.

I had an epiphany last night. This epiphany is probably common sense to about 90% of you, but I'm a bit slow. When undertaking a job that is going to require a lot of time under the hood, it is ONE MILLION times easier to just remove your hood altogether! Keeps it out of the way so you don't have to duck under the hood plus you can get much better lighting and visibility.
Also, I saw a recent test that showed that Liquid Wrench's penetrating lube is much more effective than PB Blaster. I tried it last night for the first time and initial impressions are good. It smells a little better also.

Konichiwa *****es. Are you looking for the most kick-*** ****ing roommate that ever lived? If so, look no further. You ****ing found him. I'm a 25-year-old professional marketing agent with experience at bad-*** companies in New York ****ing City. That's right! What you know about experience? I graduated from Auburn University in Alabama, and moved to NYC at the ripe, tender age of 22. After deciding that New York was a stinky ****-hole, I moved back to Alabama to cultivate more professional experience. Why? So I can make millions of dollars and not have to post **** like this on Craigslist.
Anyway, so I landed this job with a marketing firm in San Francisco, and I have no ****ing clue where to live. Honestly, I'm moving there in 3 weeks, so I don't give a **** if I have to sleep in your bathtub.
A bit about me: I'm respectful, quiet, clean and I won't bother any of your ****. If you leave **** out, I'm just like, "Oh **** I better not mess with this ****, because it's not mine." I turn off lights. I clean toilets. **** it. I'll even cook for you. That's right! My dad is a chef and taught me everything there is to know about cooking southern cajun cuisine. I'll fry green tomatoes, cover them with marinated crab meat and smother that **** in bearnaise. EVERY. GODDAMN. NIGHT. Don't eat meat? That's ****ing FANTASTIC! I'll make a zucchini and yellow squash carpaccio that will knock your ****ing socks off.
I also read a lot. I ****ing LOVE books. Vonnegut, Palahniuk, Hawthorne. All that ****. I read Tuesday's with Morrie the other day. It's a sad story, but I learned something about life, love, knowledge and the pursuit of something greater than myself. ****ing smart. Do you like movies? I ****ing love them. We can watch the **** out of some movies together if you like, or go get drinks, or work out, hike, play video games or play a game of one-on-one basketball, or I don't have to talk to you at all. It's completely UP TO YOU!
Sometimes I play guitar. Are you going to love getting baked and listening to Bob Dylan and Pink Floyd? LIVE? WHENEVER THE **** YOU WANT? Of course you are! I'll take requests and learn any song you like, because I have the voice of an angel and the acoustical stylings of James ****ing Taylor. AWWWWWW **** YEA!
A lot of people ask me, "Hey, you're from Alabama. Are you racist?" And, the answer to that question is, no. I'm not racist or judgmental at all. I love everyone. I'm a secular humanist. I ****ING LOVE PEOPLE. That's the only requirement to being a secular humanist actually. You have to like other human beings and want to help them for no other reason than they are human regardless of race, religion or sexual preference. WTF?!!!? Pretty ****ing cool right?
I own almost nothing! I'm driving my car from Alabama to California in which I'll be transporting two duffelbags of clothes, one laptop computer, one guitar, one cell-phone with charger, 8 pairs of shoes, one picture frame, probably some condoms and a ****load of beef jerky and Pringles for the trip. Though, you can expect the jerky to be gone upon my arrival. Unless you'd like me to pick up some on my way into the city. See?! I'm the most considerate person you've ever met. I'm offering to buy you **** already!
Am I interested in your pad? You can bet my nomadic *** I am! I only require 4 walls, a ceiling and a floor to shelter me from the elements. Other than that, anything else will be considered a convenient plus. I'm taking being a roommate to the next level. Email me! I'll hook yo *** up with Facebook links, background checks, credit reports, phone numbers, resumes, references, awards, sexual history, pictures of karate trophies and a list of the top 10 women I'd like to bang before I die. If you want a next-generation roommate who consistently blows your ****ing mind with awesomeness, then hit me up. I'm ready to give you money.

^That sucks! Miata or Scion?
I'm stuck at home with septic bursitis in my left knee. I've had some minor swelling there off and on, even before working on the flooring at the new house, so I didn't think much of it. Figured if I went to the dr. they'd tell me to stay off of it and take an anti-inflammatory. I'd already been doing the latter and the former was not an option at that point. But Saturday morning it looked like someone stuffed half a baseball under the skin on top of my knee cap and it was angry red. Trip to the Urgent Care on Saturday to get it drained and the fluid sent off for labs and a trip to the ortho today for more labs and draining. Now I'm on antibiotics, pain meds, can barely put weight on it or bend it, and obviously can't drive, well a manual anyway. Anyone want to trade an automatic car for my Miata for a few days?

Also, finally got the rental subs working again after the wiring grenaded itself form too much vibration. Turns out the crossovers don't like being tightened down too hard and a connection was breaking as a result. And, I am not saying there isnt some good pizza in the south, I just have never found the kind I was raised on...made from scratch by some old italian guy...as per the one I mentioned.
I recently had a "Pearl Harbor" pizza at Mellow Mushroom that was excellent.
Thats ham, pineapple, and jalepenos.
For a NY pizza I like just a plain cheese pie, nothing else. BUT, the crust has to be right, the sauce has to be right, and the cheese right as well for that to work in perfect harmony.

i'm a fan of little italy in either winder or athens. very close to what i got while in the army in germany a hundred years ago, the pizza place imported italians that would stay as long as their work visa allowed and then they'd rotate back home. pretty neat, they'd sing in italian while cooking. little italy has excellent crust and sauce... we drive up there from grayson when we're in the mood for pizza. no songs though.

Well, about that. I did a full blown CSI on the dent. I've got drywall t-square that was out of place in the garage, and dont you know its covered in drywall dust (explains the white mark), and is at the exact same hight as the dent. I'm pretty sure I must have hit it pulling it out of the garage last week when I was swapping it out for the miata. I feel like a total dumbass. At least its not very noticable. I really want to keep an open mind, but lately it seems that the whole Cali, IA slammed and lost everything that makes a Miata a great handling car, I just want to put really stupid wide wheels with ridiculously narrow aspect tires, need moooor offset, I wouldn't know how to make a car handle, oooh can I buy your Racelands! stupidity has been rearing it's ugly head around here.
I really would like to keep this civilized, but this place was founded by guys who
A) knew how to turn a corner, and make their car go around corners faster, who
B) valued modifications that improved the cars speed, and or handling, and really only were looking at changing their cars to make them better. For instance, a rear wing is only a good thing if it actually provides downforce. A carbon fiber hood is only a good thing if it actually weighs less than the original aluminum one, and provides extra cooling through aerodynamically (preferable wind tunnel tested) designed vents, to support an actual performance engine that needed extra cooling. Enough requests for suggestions on how to slam the Miata to the max, or what wheels will look best with this clown car body kit I want to put on the car. If it improves 0-60, quarter mile time, your lap times at Little Talledega, or Road Atlanta, your 60-0 braking distances, or even how fast you can take the on ramp onto 85... go ahead, otherwise....just don't!
