Apparently, she's even traveled to Japan a number of times for instruction.

"McCain did so well that in May 2005, she returned to Bondurant to hone her drifting skills. She and Jack then rebuilt a Nissan 240SX... They even competed in amateur drift competitions in the U.S. as a mother-son tandem, finishing as high as second place."

Why?

If I had her money, I'd probably take part in just about anything that caught my fancy.

BTW, I think political discussions are about the quickest way to start an argument.

I think it's great that a 50-something woman would even take an active interest in cars and performance driving. The fact that she's had instruction and even competes is awesome. Judging from her in tv appearances, I would never have put her in the cockpit of a race car.

...and yes, her husband is a political figure. But how the heck is this thread a political discussion?

Even though his daughter is a "drifter", that does not automatically give McCain my vote.

No reason at all to get defensive, I was just stating my opinion.

I'm actually not that surprised. I think she seems like a very adventurous person who thinks for herself and really likes to be very active and experience the world. I may not agree with her husband's politics but I don't dislike her at all. It's a little odd she chose drifting but I could totally see her taking an interest in racing or male-dominated sports.

My mom loves muscle cars and used to drive a 69 Firebird. A lot of women are into cars, we just don't always make it so apparent.

My  was because I can see people supporting McCain because they think his wife is cool or something. I get a little umm... wound up when people make political decisions on trivial side issues that have nothing to do with what they are voting for (and this goes for Democrat or Republican). And if you think it's a long shot, I overheard this exact conversation in 2004 "I'm voting for Bush." "Why?" "I think Kerry's wife is a *****". Yaaaaay for informed voters.

(Cindy is his wife) As funny as this news may be, I don't expect anyone's vote to be swayed. And for the record, I'm not republican.

Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as being an a-hole.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's awesome to see someone with a political position (I know she isn't but her husband is) take notice that the import scene isn't all that bad like the media makes it seem. :)

I'm with you. There are too many people out there these days ruining it for everyone. It's sad....

I regard the drift scene in a similar manner to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert....
Skynyrd wrote some good songs, its their yeehaw screaming inbred fans I find iritating. :D
Drifting is no doubt great fun, and requires a level of skill, some of the drivers are nice guys and great car enthusiasts, its many of the fans and environment of the 'sport' I find distasteful....oh yeah, and then theres the 'figure skating' subjective type judging.

Next, touge will come up from the underground and it'll end up the same way as drifting. :(
