The wifes stock 92 is recieving a set of the new Koni STRt's as soon as "brown Santa" gets em to me . Its riding on orginal OE shocks with 200K plus on them so it is way past time to replace these. I have a set of Powerflex Bumpstops that were in the car when we bought it (these (http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Performance-Part/20-1022P.html)

The car is a stock DD that wont see autoX or anything other than some spirited mountain runs, cheap is good and I'd like to get this done with parts in hand.

I hear they are fairly stiff but somewhat softer and more progressive than the stock hard rubber jobs of more concern is the length, OE on the 92 the bumpstops are 50mm, these guys are 63mm. Can I cut em a bit to give a little more travel before contact? I dont want to risk cutting them too much and damaging the shocks but I'm thinking of splitting the difference and trimming about 7mm off..

Any ideas gents?

You can cut the bumpstops and shouldn't run into any issues....

Yeah.. thanks

It was easy enough to see it once I had the shocks in hand. There was some conflicting infor on miatanet but brown delivered yesterday and confirmed my what I had thought . It'll be a week or more until I have access to my bud's lift to do the install

That seems to be the story of my miata modding. There is some cracking info on there, but there is also a huge amount of misinformation. The best way to find out is normally get your hands dirty. I'm convinced alot of people make things more difficult than necessary to justify paying others to do the work, when really they shouldn't need to, just say you payed someone else because you didn't want to risk it! It's no big deal!

No doubt...for every piece of "good" info there is a lot of trash, some of it from folks that should know better. I do all my own work but I want to be sure I have all the parts (and the right ones) before I start tearing into the car , especially if I'm doing something that requires getting the car in the air...Hate to leave my buddy with one of my cars on his lift and without out the use of his lift/shop because I failed to have the right stuff in hand first .

Oddly enough it was the guy from FCM that stated spacers were required with the new Koni STRt shocks to prevent the shaft from bottoming in the shock body. FWIW ,spacers are NOT required as long as your fully compressed bump stops are thicker than 1.5 cm
