Varsity Meet this Thursday. (9/4/08)

The monthly Varsity meet in downtown Atlanta is this Thursday. I'll actually be in my car this time. Depending on the weather, it usually starts filling up between 7:30 and 8:00.

Anyone game?

I'm most likely going to be there in the MSM. I get out of class at 6:20 so I'll be up there around 6:30 - 6:45!

Actually I can't make it this week, I've got a going away get-together for a friend of mine (see the soloatlanta forum). However, I was wondering if anyone w/ an MSM would let me have a test drive at the next one I can attend. I ask because I'm seriously thinking about a new daily, and I've driven an AP1 S2000 and... I want one. But I'm kind of torn about leaving the Mazda fold (though I'll still have the Miata), so I was curious what the next best thing would be.

Yeah, there usually isn't more than maybe....5 or 6 cars there. Pretty much a big empty parking lot, pretty sad really. :whistle:

Ricers are the entertainment value for me. And I'm 5 miles away, so might as well.

So if any of you high-and-mighty-too-cool-for-the-Varsity guys might deign to make an appearance, I suppose I'll see you there. :P

ITP and OTP = inside/outside the perimeter?

I won't necessarily drive forever for a meet. An hour's drive is pretty much my cut off point. Fortunately Athens is just inside that boundary. :)

I'm ITP and I would rather go to an OTP meet. I hate Varsity meets. Too much rice, too crowded.

I *might* go just to get out of the house and if so... I will consume copious amounts of liquor first.

Problem is, all the Miata queers are fickle about attending meets, unless theyre right down the street from their own house.

I probably won't be attending the V meet tonight. I took the coilovers off and put OEM suspension back on the S the other night so now it's in 4x4 mode and embarrassing to be seen in. :cry:

A long time ago the meets at the Varsity used to be fun, filled with a nice array of cars, and pretty worry-free. The last few times that I went, it was largely a rice-fest, with people that had a lack of respect about other people's property. That kills the fun for me.

Yeah, the meets are usually ok until around 8:30 or 9. Thats when it gets really ricey.
And as far as the disrespect goes, I totally agree. When I went to leave, there were hand prints all over my car!

I remember when it was just the RX-7 club up there..... back in like 2000. Wow... that was 8 years ago.....

I went once in 2006 as I used to work off 17th street....and it was ok. Felt out of place for a Miata to be honest. And at that time, I was just starting to visit imp0rtatlanta and it just was to ricey for me.

....THEN I started hearing/reading about all the problems with the V meets as well as cars stolen after someone (a crew) was copying down VIN#'s and then grabbing cars at a later date. It was stuff I read and pretty scary, so I just have no reason to go to these (at the Varsity). Too much unknowns and too many crooks at times.

It's pretty cool to see so many cars in one place but I've found that I like meets where the cars are driven (aka autox :D). The riverside ones at gwinnett keep me happy, with the occasional Athens one too.

Likewise, the last one I went to was complete with hoodrats and stupid people drinking and smoking. Was still a good crack though.

^^ I agree. No matter where you set the meet at, there will always be a crowd there to ruin it for you. It sucks but it's just something we have to get used too.
