Random question lol but does anyone ever get laughed at/made fun of for driving a miata? We all know that Miata drivers are either gay or women(though every woman Miata driver I've met and talked to could drive pretty good) I'm sure there are many funny stories related to this so lets hear them. The second day I had my car I pulled up next to a Cherokee with one guy and three girls and I was taking my friend for a ride and one girl looked over and started laughing at me...all I could do is bust out laughing. And I love it when truck drivers are all like, "mmmm...my big manly v8 staright pipe truck" yet our little Miata's will stilll beat them and then a corner comes up. Honestly Miata drivers buy Miata's because they want one to enjoy and it has nothing to do with image, showing a strong self esteem lol. Just thowin this idea out there.

I used to take some crap for it. I have a lot of friends that are into muscle cars. They'd call it a fag/chick/etc. car. I'd usually respond with "I'm not trying to compensate for anything".

But most of those people had never driven one. My brother in law, for instance, a die hard Corvette fan and V8 fan, used to absolutely give me hell about it. Then I talked him into taking it for a drive. He's literally looking for a cheap NA now to keep from having to drive the Cummins to work every day.

I don't understand, though, why we get so much more crap than, say, guys that drive Civic hatches. Never figured that one out.

Yeah... modding a car that was meant for grocery getting IS gay...

I've never really had any 'serious' comments.... sometimes my friends will **** with me and use the gay comments.

I've never had anyone say anything. But then again, I kinda fit the stereotype..

I got one joke when I first bought the car, and nothing since then. I think the headlights and the car's general stance and "don't **** with me" attitude, plus the SCCA sticker in the rear window, definitely help.

I had a complete stranger in a lifted pickup truck with a confederate flag sticker yell in a parking lot to me "get a real car". I just laughed.

And quite the opposite for me, when i had my 99 all vinyled up all 787B style, i hactually had a LOT of people compliment the car...including some of those "lifted truck" crowd. But the best was little kids... it was a sure thing that if there were any kinds within 50fy they would point and yell "race car!! look!!" lol

I've had a few rednecks in trucks shout stuff, I normally shout back with vile English-English language and leave them speechless. Quite a few girls joke about the car but you know they all love it.

People in lifted trucks always rub off to me as being an a-hole. I know that's bad but almost every "big truck" driver I've met has the mentality that they have the biggest d*** to walk this planet.

It seems to never fail, the bigger the truck, the smaller the guy that is driving it. I always laugh when a big ole truck pulls in a little bitty dude "falls" out of it.

I must admit, I find it fascinating how some people attribute the size of a car to their manliness levels.

MeFryRice
09-04-2008, 10:35 AM
And it will always be that way to some people. I don't take any comments about my car personal. If they don't like it, I could give two ****s. I don't buy the car or a certain part to impress others.

Couldn't agree more, the same goes for when people mod their cars. I may not like it, but fair enough, it's your car and you can do what you want to it. Just don't go expecting others to appreciate the same way as you, and don't get a sore arse when someone tells you their opinion.

Exactly but I have to admit, I will laugh time to time when I see a mod that I feel should not be on that particular car but at the end of the day, it's his car, not mine. If it makes him happy, that's all that matters. I think people lose sight of this sometimes.

Yep...ricers, er I mean very...tastefully...modded cars, I'm one to talk lol I have a big ole stripe on my car! haha About truck guys outside of a fwe of my friends who drive them they usually laugh at me like im gay, but its different when I bought my car and there parents just handed them there big *** truck. And when they, as someone stated nicely, fall out of their trucks and stand at a stout 5'5" and the miata driver gets out and it 6 plus feet it really gets funny. People at my school give me a ton of crap about it and how gay it is, yet all of the same people drive something slower than my car. And they never seem to want to back their words up. The people I don't get crap from ironically all drive faster cars or a truck than me. Ah, human irony and hypocracy never fails to make me laugh.

How much do large quantities of vinyl cost? How about for just a hood?

Doppelgänger
09-08-2008, 04:49 PM
Not too much for the most part, but it all depends on the quality/mil/type of vinyl.

i had 3 drunk rednecks going off one night... yelling fag, Queer, etc.

longs story short i ran them off the road listened to the rear wheel snap off on the POS 92 corolla... and watch the cop that heard the whole thing write them all tickets and haul 2 to jail for drinking and driving...

hate me or not... i laughed all the way home!

It's funny to me because we were so different than the rest of the crowd there.... and look what car makes the magazine. Miatas at Myrtle Beach is a nice event but it's an older, tamer crowd. We did things on our own most of the time we were there. And, that event was a year and a half ago and we're just now seeing this. lol

MeFryRice

I've only had the car for a couple weeks, and I've already gotten a bunch of compliments. I got a couple weird looks from my friends when I told them I was getting a Miata, but that's mostly because I'm 6' and 260lbs. I haven't gotten any negative comments yet, probably because most people don't want to start **** with somebody that looks like this:

MoD_Scotty

I've been keeping the top up all the time actually...it's not bad at all. I probably have about 1.5-2" of headroom.

The bass is an ESP LTD D-4, tuned BF#BE ("drop-b"). Here's a couple better pics:

but back to my trip to PC, matt and i went down there and no joke, every 5 minutes someone would scream out "CUTE CAR FAG!" or something to that effect. i think it was the 2 guys in a miata part... lol
