in less than a month from install. Yes, I bought a used part and yes mazmart is giving me a nicer looking replacement. I played the used part lotto and lost.
Still it sucks because I am going up to ashville tomorrow and would have really liked to take the miata. The saturn lacks a stereo system and convertible top. I don't expect I can get a slave in tonight. That wasnt fun last time and i dont look forward to doing it again.
Looks like i gotta spend tonight harnessing a proper stereo on the satty and prepping it for roadworthyness.
What are the odds of this happening?

Well, the odds are against you with installing a used 'wear' part. Rebuild kits are cheap at the auto parts store and makes everything like new, unless there is a problem with the slave itself.
But yeah, that sucks. But why not just jack the passenger side of the car up and install a rebuild kit? Sure it's a small space to work in, but since everything has been recently taken off, it'll be an easier job, and now you know what to do.

hmmm... it takes 15 minutes to install a clutch slave. Take the rf tire off with the car up on that side. Remove the line, remove to bolts on the slave and then reverse with the new slave. Pump the clutch pedal ~150 times and it should be bled (single line is self bleeding).

 It feels like that many times...
But really? On the forums I've usually read and have always bled it manually... Is that for all years?

getting the slave in is no prob. if it was just that i would swap em like nobodies business. i fail at bleeding. last time i had to have it towed and bled professionally. Unless one of you fine fellows would care to stop by norcross and show me how to do it up proper. in exchange for booze of course.
otherwise I don't know if I want to open that pandoras box just yet.

Yes- if you pump it forever, it will eventually bleed itself. Otherwise you just bleed it like a brake caliper- pump it up, hold it in, somebody else loosens the bleeder, then tightens, then repeat.
You sure it's not leaking somewhere else? That line has some breaks in it behind the engine where it uses some flex line. A good reason to go to that aftermarket single SS braided line...

Ah, gotcha. It's easier to bleed it manually then, unless you're by yourself.
And I second the good reasoning, especially after having my fiber line fail in Biloxi, MS. That sucked bad. Either get the SS upgrade or go to Advance, get some hard line and fittings, and make your own. One of the best drivetrain investments you can make.
Can you tell if and where you are losing fluid?

Yes. But most of the time I'm working on car(s), I'm solo.

I looked underneath the car and everything was bone dry. Then reached in and pulled the boot off of the slave and my hand filled with fluid. It felt like brake fluid. I am just wagering that it is more likely that it's the slave because of this.
I may just get the sc2 battle ready and take it on the trip. Previously when i bled it it was with somebody else putting the pedal in and then me opening the valve. then close and release. after about 60 times we realized we were getting nowhere.

Yeah, that's your slave alright. Just get a rebuild kit and install, don't mess with used parts again.
I'd offer to help, but you're a little bit of a drive away.

I'm going to let mazmart make good and give me another one that is in much better shape. After that I'll look into rebuilds and such. Thank you guys for all of the great suggestions.
For now I am just going to give the saturn a run and work on the miata some afternoon next week. Any bleeding tips or or help is much appreciated.
