Finally got myself another miata. it is a 94 with 115k miles. came with harddog rollbar, hardtop, and racing beat front sway bar. The car is in amazing condition, for the year and the mileage, this is the best looking one i have ever seen. picked it up last night and took pictures today.
Here is my previous miata, a 97. i bought it 100% stock and added some visual mods. then i let my cousin dirve it and he blew the engine. I was comming to California since i was in the military, so i just sold it to him so he can build it and such, but i kept the 97 engine to build for myself. muhahahaha. but here was my 97.

Loved that car to death. but since it was a 97, it was hard to do any engine modifications due to emissions. i always wanted a 90-95 so it is just a "taste" test. but never got around to it.
Well now i have finally got one. a very clean 94. i just about feel bad for planning to modify it its so clean. here are the pictures.

Now for this miata, i have decided that i want to make it a retro themed. Bride histrix or corbeau classics, nakamae interior, work wheels, autokonexion ducktail trunk, GV front lip with hopefully a splitter with turnbuckles from TDR, 90-93 Dash, 97 style door panels(the ones with the arm rests.), GV tails, Boss Frog Double Hoop Roll Bar. ect, ect, ect.
only thing i still have yet to decide is if i want to turbo or go with ITBs. i still have the engine from my 97 which will be the donor engine i am going to be building.
but yeah, this is my new miata, and her name is Pandora. :D

Damn that's clean. If you really do go with the 90-93 dash, I have an extra nib Nakame dash pad and gauge hood cover.lmk if interested . The track dog with turnbuckles looks great with the GV lip, not to mention it'll keep that fiberglass from shattering. I love my Autokonexion trunk, just don't cut out the third brake light, there isn't a provision to attach it inside! The Corbeau classics are great seats, but if you are at all tall, well they put you about four inches higher than stock seats...so beware. You can cut the foam, but then they can get a bit tight, same with the 97' door panels, they cut into the shoulder room badly! See if Joe is still doing the GV Tails, he was selling them as a group buy for $615 with the lights! Most other places fail to tell you they don't include the lights! Sounds like great plans.

Thanks to Oldgrayfrog, i now have a Black Nakamae Dash and Gauge Hood Cover for my future 90-93 dash! here is an example picture of the dash pad and gauge hood cover i am "borrowing" from his build thread.
http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6226/6338503134_93a1d9ccc5_z.jpg
now i just have to get the rest of the nakamae stuff; hardtop headliner, trans tunnel, shelf, behind the seats, ect.
also been thinking about getting the nakamae bucket seats like these. i originally wanted the bride histrix, but being those are $3k+ for both, i guess these buckets will be pretty awesome alternative.

well last night i was on San Diego Craigslist, and came across a red automatic 92 miata for only 1600. car runs and drives fine and everything works. odometer is broke, but i didnt really care since it runs and drives with no issues. so i bought it today for my wife because she doesnt know how to drive stick. so now me and my wife both have miatas!
here are both of them

and in other news, tonight i am going to pick up a nearly brand new looking RS*R exhaust for my car. =)

02-04-2012, 07:22 PM
yesterday i went to ProjectG and got a power steering "kit" for the wifes car since hers came factory with manual steering, and i will be installing that next weekend. but on the way back, i picked up my RS*R ExMag GT II exhaust! it looks damn good, and i cant wait to put it on, but unfortantly i have to. i ordered a straight cat from good-win-racing, which i should get on tuesday, and then i can install the RS*R. along with the exhaust, i was given a RS*R license plate frame, which i have never seen before, so its gotta be uber rare!
here is my new exhaust and license plate frame. =)

as for nakamae though, i have never seen it in person until yesterday when i got it in the mail. and i must say that i am highly satisfied with it. the detail is awesome, it feels great, and even looks great. i am more impressed than i thought i would be. this is some damn good stuff here. =D

Side mounts are okay, but I wouldn't buy them until you get a precise measurement at the base for width. Accommodating the side mounts, you don't want the seat to be greater than 20.5", any wider and it won't fit. At the top, avoid seats with "wings" and shoulder width greater than 21.5". Great looking seat, but at $600 per seat, I would look at the guys on eBay motors that do retro porsche car seats, around the same price, but actually leather :)

finally got my straight cat from brian at good-win-racing yesterday, and it was pouring down rain yesterday so i decided to wait until today to finally install my RS*R exhaust. i got it installed, and i must say, this damn exhaust is SEXY. i love the sound(no silencer) and it looks great on the car! i am very satisfied with the result.

In other news, i saw revlimiters blog on how he did a leather wrapped 1.6 dash, and it actually turned out pretty damn great looking. it got me wondering and thinking about selling my nakamae dash pad and go for the leather wrapped dash. i am still thinking about it though. i will wait until he installs the dash and see how it holds up before i make a decision.
thats all for now. no idea what im goign to do for next mods though...

02-08-2012, 09:45 PM
Revlimiter has mad skills, he made the retro power window switches for my car. His gauge swaps are just incredible quality. I think that you should get a good clean 90-93 dash, and play around with it. They aren't all that expensive, and if you're thinking about doing either the Nakame or doing your own leather, then it doesn't need to be crack free. The 90-93 doesn't have an airbag, so it weighs a good deal less. If you like how it turns out, then you can install it, if not, hey a cracked dash is only like $50. Make sure you do the repair work, as done on revlimiter's page, so that you don't have stress cracks spreading. Thanks for the compliment, with my engine dead, I'm feeling pretty bummed right now,and am hella jealous of your beautiful Na's.
cxmoney
02-08-2012, 09:53 PM
whenever i get the manual to power window "kit" for my car, i will be getting revlimiters window switch. i love how it looks. most likely i will stick with the nakamae, but i can always play around with my wifes dash(she has a 92 with black interior) and see how it looks if i do her dash in leather. hell, i might even just swap our dashes, she can get my 94 dash and i can get her 92 dash. save money, and the hassle of trying to find a decent black 1.6 dash.
i am sorry about your engine, but look on the brightside, your car will always be better than most of ours. thats an accomplishment that would always leave me happy. =)

Well I'm trying to use this as a learning experience. Not just learning the ins and out of engine building, but learning to value my friends opinions, learning to be grateful that I have friends who will drop by and help pull the motor, or drive with it to the machine shop. I am also trying to learn patience in a way that would have been impossible a few short years ago.to not just survive this process, but to come back stronger, with all forged internals, and an even stronger build .

02-09-2012, 11:25 AM
i like all things nakamae (kinda/sorta/maybe/if). i like the console pieces, door cards, headliner, but i'm not a fan of the dash pad. it looks clumsy to me parked on top of the dash. but that leather wrap.... now that is a beautiful, elegant solution.

Well. Ive decided on a set of wheels, and will be going to pick them up friday night. The wheel style is pretty common, but the 4x100 lug pattern is near impossible to find. luckily i was able to find some by bumping a thread from july last year! they are 15x8 with +19 offset for the fronts and +6 for the rears. They are a love it or hate it kind of thing, and i personally LOVE them and think they will be PERFECT for my retro style. Here is a sneak peek. =)

Sounds like a common sense approach instead of being a cheapazz. If it was a good setup & did what you wanted then the low price is a bonus IMHO. I'm with the rest of the folks here...I want to see some pics of the car with those wheels. Should be nice!
cxmoney
02-16-2012, 09:15 PM
well tomorrow i will be going to pick up the wheels as long as the guy kept his word and is holding them and dont sell them. if he sells them, then ill have ot find another set of wheels to go with, because these "smoothies" do not come in 4x100 lug pattern, and i called serveral companies, including companies that create their wheels in house, and they all said they could not and would not even make a 4x100 set. so this set is EXTREMELY rare. if i can get them, i would be very happy. pick up a set of tires, and some megans, and throw them on. =)
what size tires do you guys think would look best? i was thinking about going with the 195/45 or 195/50 for a "mild" stretch. but for these wheels, i have no idea what would be the better choice.

It does seem like it is missing something. I think it needs more exterior styling. I plan on getting a ducktail autokonexion trunk as well as the chrome removeable luggage rack. Retro style. Haha. Well I like your plan, for the black NA I recently picked up in South Carolina, I just purchased a set of East Coast mirrors, a Zoom stainless fuel lid, and I had a set of KGWorks type 2 turn signal intakes with the mesh, and the visible amber light. I've had a really nice chrome luggage rack, it lists for about $400, I traded a guy the Nardi wood SE wheel, shift knob and brake lever from a 2001 SE for it. I hadn't been able to use it because all my cars had spoilers on them, but now finally I have a flat deck. I have a wood rimed Momo Indy 350mm wheel, and am using the retro Mazda horn button for that one. I'm planning on using the set of 16x8 Rota RBRs, they have an eight spoke design as well as a nice fat lip and are +3 fitment, wearing BFGoodrich KDW2 in 215-45-16, that should fill the wheel wells nicely. Like you I'm not entirely sure the car will remain black, I'm pondering a change to the 2003 SE color on doppelgänger's car. I think that would set off he chrome accents nicely.
Because it may become my son's first car, I am trying to resist boosting it, however, I would love to find a good cold side MP62 kit...it would be great to have a powerful SC , and a powerful turbo car parked in the same garage...I just keep reminding myself that this is supposed to be the "budget" build:D

well i have finally moved into my permanent residence and i finally have a garage!
so now that i have a place to work on my car and put my parts somewhere, i can start collecting more parts. =)
so far while i was in GA picking up my wife, i managed to pick up a mint 1.6 dash. =) now to put it in my car, i will need a gauge hood and the tombstone.and right now i am waiting to hear back on CR for some teardrop speaker covers.
once the military pays me back for all the travel and stuff, i will be ordering a new roll bar in chrome, itll either be the clearview or the double hoop, i really cant decide, and i will probably be picking up some corbeau classics along with front and rear r-lips(or replica r-lips).
there are also some other things i am thinking about getting like the OBX retro fuel lid and possibly a G-wing.

Minor update, no pictures though...
sold my HD rollbar, and i am waiting for my stainless Bossfrog double hoop to come in the mail. =)
along with the bar, i also now have:
-R-Lip(front)
-R-Lip(Rear)
-Planet Miata Side Skirts
-Pitcrew Rearveiw mirror
-areodynamic door pulls
-Full LE interior
-2 sets of Aluminum LE speaker covers
i am so busy with work i havent been able to install anything. =(
i also have a set of black leather lotus seats, which i am selling/trading tonight to Project-G for some cash plus a G-wing. and with the cash, i will be ordering some corbeau classics.
i still have alot more to get to make it become my dream miata, but i am slowly getting there.

I love my car. =)
installed mt Pitcrew rearveiw mirror, 1.6 dash, R front and rear lips, side skirts, and i drifted away a little from retro with the G-wing!
sometime this week i will be getting my corbeau classics, the boss frog stainless doublehoop, and my LE interior! I have a full LE interior comming in. only bad thing is the dash is cracked pretty bad. but i will be dong revlimiters leather wrap on it as in his blog about his 1.6 dash. =) car is going to be badass. i cant wait!

Looking awesome! The seat bracket made it! Thanks fr finding the time to get it shipped. It fits the Exige seat beautifully, but just an FYI, the bracket (Ryoku Rob off CR.net) places the seat too far back to work with the Boss Frog double hoop! Make sure whatever brackets you buy are adjustable. It doesn't appear that I'll have an issue with the HD double diagonal in my 91', I'm just going to swap brackets between the cars.
I love those moon wheels, and as far as I know, you're the only Miata that has them!

Yes i think im the only miata with these moons. :)
As far as the lotus seats, i sold those an ordered corbeau classics. So those should be here this week as with my double hoop and LE interior. Once i sell some of my old stuff, i will buy some leather and wrap the LE dash as revlimiter did in his blog.
Then i will be ordering some nakamae LE stuff in the future. :)

thank you! i love the direction i am going with this one. my old 97 i didnt have a plan or goal, but this one i do.
and the mirror is kind of annoying, creates a minor blind spot, but i am slowly getting used to it. i really like it.

05-11-2012, 11:44 AM
Are there any modifications that have to be made to the 93 dash or does it just bolt in? Also do you have to use the 93 door cards or does the 94-97 stuff match up to the 93 dash?
cxmoney
05-11-2012, 12:03 PM
The 93 dash bolted right in. Obviously wiring had to be swapped out, but the dash itself fit. And my 94 cards worked fine. And im sure 94-97 will work fine too

Awesome build. I've always preferred the 90-93 dash to the 94-97. Mine is cracked up pretty good maybe I'll look into an early dash swap. Thanks for some inspiration :)
And of course can't wait to see some more pics! Those wheels really do something for me, you have one of the better looking NAs IMO
cxmoney
05-11-2012, 01:42 PM
Well thanks!
If you do want to do a 90-93 dash swap, dont forget that you will need the gauge hood, and te tombstone off a 90-93 as the 94+ will not work. Also dont forget the glove box and the knee pad(steering underside column cover) for a 90-93 dash as well. Once youve got all that, just take the wiring out of you 94+ dah and fit in into the 90-93 dash the same way. Then install and bam! You have an earlier dash. I say the hardest part o the whole thing was the HVAC. It doesnt move around much and its a pain in the ***. But once you unhook it, then its easy sailing. I didnt even need to remove the steering wheel at all.

Now imagine this with the LE interior, Stainless doublehoop, the LE "Eunos" Side stripe as well.... but instead of black, it will be 1970 Ford Grabber Green. =D
