So I've really slacked off on doing this journal and I decided that tonight was as good of a night to do it as any. For those who don't know me, the name's Bobby. ADD kicks in pretty hard when doing this kind stuff, so bear with me on the sentence structuring, pointless rants, and general randomness. You really don't have to read all of this bullshiv :) Otherwise, enjoy!

Oh and forgive the terrible cellphone pics. I didn't want to take a lot of pics when it was in this stage..dunno why.

1999 Mazda Miata - Base - White - 83,553 miles

After selling my 20th Anniversary VW GTI in early September 2011, I had to find a vehicle fairly quickly. I found this girl on the Myrtle Beach Craigslist on the 4th of November and decided next day to pick her up. Danny was awesome enough to go with me and use his car to make the journey.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/LaotianAsn4/IMG_20110926_114855.jpg

She's definitely not perfect. Hails dings, finding out the car had been resprayed(by the time we had gotten to the car it was dark), and the ugly wood grain interior are a few things that stood out from the get go. Nothing I can't handle though.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/LaotianAsn4/IMG_20110906_114513.jpg

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/LaotianAsn4/IMG_20110909_190707.jpg

She also did come with a few mods. Tein Basic coilovers, Sport Roll Bar, shorty antennae, and towhooks all which I still have one the car now. I'll change everything out as I progress. I couldn't help doing a basic axle-back exhaust from Enthuza. I had to have some sort of tone to go with my drive. Jason is an awesome guy and I plan on seeing him relatively soon for another exhaust. I also employed the services of GVfanatic to make me a coldside intake to give the motor some grunt.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/LaotianAsn4/IMG_20110926_204057.jpg

The plans were to do the basic maintenance and DD for a few months so I can restore my modding $$ and I got as far as December 18th when I hit a deer on the way home from a friend's house. I have full coverage with a $100 deductible so I was able to come out on top in the end. I decided that I'd go ahead and get the car halfway presentable for the time being.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a321/LaotianAsn4/IMG_20120104_180439.jpg

And that is where I'm at now. I was able to purchase a hood, fenders, headlights, and a few other misc pieces from Mazmart(who were VERY helpful, thanks again Paul and Chris!). Some of which I threw on already to get the car on the road. I also ordered myself a set of DD wheels and tires at a killer price. Got the wheels a couple of days ago and I'm pretty stoked to get them on. I have my bumper ordered and it should be here this week. If all goes well, I'll have a decent looking Miata by mid February. I want to start with the performance ASAP and should have something decent in the future.

Some sneak peeks..

I'm sure I forgot a bunch, but it's a start. It's going to be fun building this car.

Thanks for reading!

Me too, it's about time I had a decently modded car again. It's been too long. :(

Very nice! Good idea to take your time & plan out the financial aspects of what you want to do to reach your goal. Keep the updates coming!

So today my tires arrived on the truck at work and it happened to be my off day. I was able to mount the wheels/tires without any sort of rush and spent a good amount of time getting the road force and balance perfect.

Wheels: Kosei K1 V2 15x7 +25

Tires: Nitto Neogen 205/50/15

This is with no height adjustment since I have no spanner wrenches at the moment.

Enjoy the same pose with different angles! Lol

Hope you guys like them...and it's confirmed that my bumper comes in Monday, so look forward to another update fairly soon!

Criticism is always welcome. :)

Looks good man I have always loved White NBs. Is that your tire marks on the ground next to the car?

Looks awesome Bobby! I have spanners if you need to borrow them, although the car looks great at that height, probably handles well too. :)

Can't wait to see the bumper on the car too!

Mmmmm. That looks really good, man. Koseis were a good choice! Can't wait for more.

They weren't my first choice, but I can't afford to daily drive $2500 wheels :/

It looks sooo good!! I'm digging it man!!!

Thanks! How'd the rest of your suspension go?

Haha, I noticed them after I had gotten out, but no they aren't.

I might hit you up about the spanners! It doesn't handle too badly, but the body roll is killing me...:ninja:

I do have to say that I didn't have very high hopes with these wheels, but they turned out better than I had imagined so I'm content for now. :)

Loving this NB, looks dope! A nice lip would finish it off perfect!

You don't really need spanners. Just use a flat head screw driver and a hammer to loosen and tighten them. It doesn't do that much damage and it's easier IMO than spanners that like to slip and make you bash your fist.

Looks good BTW.

I don't, but I prefer to use them. If I was rushed to get it done then I'd certainly use a screwdriver.

The fronts are scrubbing pretty good, so I'll be cutting away some fender liner tomorrow afternoon. Most of it rubbed off on the interstate last night. Hahaha

Mr Egg Rollllll

So I was able to get a set of spanner wrenches from a friend and decided to go ahead and lower it evenly today.

The original heights, fender to ground, centered on the hub. All numbers are in inches.

LF - 22 3/16th

RF - 22 5/16th

LR - 23 1/4th

RR - 22 7/8th

As you can see they were all over the place and definitely uneven front to back.

After 3 tries I was able to find the height that I wanted that didn't scrub going straight and was bearable threw turns.

Fronts - 21 5/8th

Rears - 22

I cut away parts of the fender liner that were scrubbing from the previous height, but I'll let the liner take a little beating so I can get an accurate depiction on what I need to remove in the future. I did find that the LF tire was rubbing on the area where the bumper and fender are connected. I'm not sure why only on that side :(

By the way, yes I do know that I'm sacrificing handling a bit by running as low as I am, but since this is my daily I won't need it for 90% of my driving. I have the coilovers marked as I will be raising and lowering the Miata at least once every month or two.

Here are a couple of pics I took tonight. I will have better ones up later, but that'll be after the bumper gets thrown on...which arrives tomorrow :)

K1's are the ****, one of my favorite rims. Gotta say, your car looks pretty slammed now. I think I prefer it a little higher but that's opinions for you!

I like it higher also, but I'm just getting ready for the new bumper. The height will change frequently enough for me not to worry. :D

So my bumper decided to show up at work Monday afternoon.

First off, the quality of the bumper is pretty awesome for hand laid fiberglass. It feels solid and very strong. The fitment for the most part is pretty spot on as well. The only issue I have it beneath the passenger headlight, but it's not terrible.

The install was fairly straight forward and required drilling only 13 holes exactly. Those included 7 for the set plate and 3 for each fender liner. I would have to say that I was surprised at how little work it was to fit it. They definitely made it easy to install. I did have to trim part of the plastic clips to fit the bumper flush with the fender, but that was no big deal and took little time and effort.

Overall, I have to say I am pleased with the product and can't wait to throw it in paint! :D

You guys deserve a pic after a boring few paragraphs :o

Straight from Bomex, no replicas for me.

The car looks a bit nose heavy to me, so I'll be adding a few small things here and there to even it out. I already have 2 products in mind that I'll need to acquire in the coming months. :)

I'm glad you guys like it, the cosmetics are coming along, but I'm itching to start my suspension setup!

I would say the small OEM sideskirts go well with the bomex front. I really like that bumper.

The only thing is that the bumper widens out toward the end, so I need an "extension" to complete the look.

Thanks, haha. Don't count me out on what we were discussing. It's still a possibility.
