Rota Subzeros that I bought from Jenn. I'm gonna paint the calipers red and the lug nuts black soon.
I don't always like black wheels on a red car but I like these.
Thanks Jenn!

Sweeet. Glad others like it too. Yes, I do believe suspension will be next... After I get a new set of tires and the Hard Dog. I was thinking I would save up for some coilovers.

They look really nice mate, always good to see nice wheels stay within the community.

Ok... just got some new tires put on at Discount Tire near Discover Mills. I asked them a couple of times what mounting machine they were using and if it would scratch the paint on the wheels. They said it is not a metal head and it will not scratch the wheels.

These are the results. Several scratches and chips in the paint where as before it was pretty close to perfect. They were also kind enough to leave some of the tire mounting silicone all over the tires and wheels to throw on the body of the car.

Definitely time to file a claim.

I called them up right after and explained and he said to bring it back tomorrow... what do you mean file a claim? I'm ignorant.

Basically what you're probably going to end up having to do when you go up there, filling out paperwork saying they messed them up. They'll probably try to deny they did that. I hope for your sake they don't, but most tire shops will.

right, thanks. Hopefully they'll cooperate.

well, you have pics of them before the new tires... and now after. Tell them you want them to pay to have them refinished because they're custom painted, not bought.
And if they try to give you that "well, its paint and that happens" bull****, tell them that tires had obviously been mounted on there with no problems before.
Don't mind the tire grease though, that stuff won't hurt the paint or your car. But, it almost seems like the tech. left the excess on there to maybe hide some nicks he put in the paint :dunoo: I've never seen that much left on the wheels after mounting. What kinda of new tires did you get? What size?

Yeah hopefully the before pictures will mean something to them. The grease is definitely excessive. I bought some falken ze-512 215/40/17. They were the same price as the ones you showed me on tire rack and seemed to have better ratings overall. There were some things to question with the tire wall on the sumitomos. I kept the 452s off the wheel since they only could offer $15 a piece.
They said that they could match the online prices of tire rack so i figured sure what the heck. When I looked at the invoice, they charge for shipping as if I bought them from tires rack. Pretty sneaky. I guess i'll head there straight from work tomorrow and see what I can work out.

Damn so you had to pay price + shipping + tax? And they screwed the rim up? F that. Good luck tomorrow, give em hell.

+ mounting/valve stem etc. Yeah it'll be a blast.
JennB
02-11-2009, 10:29 PM
That's really, really messed up. I've had tires mounted on and taken off of those rims 2-3 times without a single scratch on them. It's not that hard to do. Someone was just lazy as hell. Ugh, that sucks. Which Discount was it? I can't believe how lazy and disrespectful people can be.
And the 2 452's that were really good are nearly brand new. Maybe 2K miles on them.

Don't take a backward step when you're in there mate. Lazy bastards. We need to get our own tire source sorted out.

The Discount Tire off of 141 in Chamblee has mounted/dismounted the wheels before and they did it without any problems. I'd trust them with any tire.

So the manager was awesome. He said get him a quote and he'll pay for it. So Mike, I saw that you got them painted last at magnum collision... but they look a bit too nice for a touch up. I'll see if a body shop i've used in the past close by paints wheels.
Anyway, Discount tire probably will see me as a future customer if this actually works out.

Jenn had only found a few shops that would tak on painting a set of wheels. Wheel Wizard will do it, but I wasn't very happy with the last couple of set of wheels I have seen them paint.... the sides of the spokes and the barrels of the wheel felt like 60 grit sand paper. Yellow River Collision in Lilburn originally painted the wheels, Wheel Wizard had to touch up two of them after concrete got splashed on them...and you can feel the difference when washing the wheels....very rough. Honestly, i'd try taking them back to YRC if it's not too much of a bother. Magnum might do it, but you'll have to call and ask.
The wheels look fantastic on the red car. Saw them this evening. Good luck on getting them repaired.

You got pretty lucky. I thought for sure they were going to deny it.

Yeah, me too. The guy actually owned a miata in the past and tried to make sure his guys took special care of the wheels. I was calm but stern about it and he apologized for the extra effort it would take on my part but said he would pay for it.

Yeah, I had them painted by Yellow River Collision. They did an awesome job and were really nice to work with. They were the only good shop I could find to paint wheels. I'm sure I could have had a random body shop do it but I'm kinda picky with the car.

I second that. Very hard to find these days.
I had a very similar situation and the shop offered to get it repaired. Hearing that Wheel Wizard does a good job, I took it there with out a doubt in my mind but needless to say, they had to redo the wheel 3 different times. Would I recommend WW? Nope.

its amazing. I had wheels done by ww 3 or 4 times last year and they all looked great... idk
