I've got a Samsung BlackJack that's served me very well but has recently been causing me some issues with sending/receiving texts and phone calls. I might just go with a big factory reset and update to Windows Mobile 6 but I always like looking at new phones too. Anyone got anything they want to share?

I like the samsung i760 but unfortunately it's a verizon style phone.

Well are there any good gsm phones with wifi on the market at the moment? I'm not a huge fan of the iphone. I've always had a massive soft spot for the Sony Ericsson's on the euro market, the k850i being a really cool phone. The older Sony's also only used to be tri-band rather than quad band, doing all their broadcasting on the T-mobile range.

The N95 seems like a good one, unfortunately it's rather expensive. I used to spend alot of time on howardforums back when I had my L7.

Bump this up. I need to upgrade but Cingular has a very limited upgrade choice. My main concern is my ****ty signal and by nearly all accounts, the iphone has pimping signal.

Ideally I was planning on the Blackberry 8820 because I read that it would use wifi networks for increased voice coverage. Something that would have been ideal for both my parents home and my own, where AT/T traditionally struggles but we have wifi networks going on. Unfortunately it seems that feature is only offered with T-Mobile.

Why is it all the phones offered on the cingular website are so bland? Would there be a difference in upgrade options if I went to an AT/T dealer?

I'm not a big fan of the iphone but it does seem to check all the boxes.

If your contract is over, what about looking at the G-1?

Unfortunately, no. The AT&T dealer might have a couple discontinued models that you might like.

About the iPhone, you mentioned that it has "pimping" signal, IMO, it's no better then any other phone that I've owned. I find the PDA's to have a weaker signal/poor battery life due to the capabilities of the phone compared to your "normal" phones; Razr, Krzr, L7, etc.

We do have names you know.....

Maybe I should make mine something long and complicated and see if you try to reference me by it

Anyway :)
I just got a Samsung a737 and it's pretty nifty so far. I'd always had Motorola phones and thought i'd never get something else, but this one is nice.. and small.

The a737 is a good phone.

What features are you looking for in a phone Jack?

I would avoid Windows Mobile if possible.

Hey leave me alone!
I said that back in August, before everyone was on a first name basis!

But on the whole cell phone thing..
Since SOMEONE hasn't activated my new IPhone yet, I've had to go back to my old Razr. And I must say, I actually get better service with the Razr..

Hey punk, you know I've tried getting it to work again. Just jailbreaking/activating 2.1 on the first-gen iPhone isn't exactly as easy. My software keeps crashing right before it completes the custom .ipsw file. :( I will try again for you tonight but I get something in return. ;)

Haha I just like messing with you!
And don't worry... I've definitely got an incentive for you!! :naughty:

I have a Razr V3xx and I really couldn't be happier with it. After all of the complaints about the 1st gen Razrs, I was a little nervous about it but I've had it for two years now and have no interest in getting rid of it.

My Razr was awesome, until about 6 months ago when a couple of the buttons started being stubborn. I have to push some of the buttons like 5 times to get it to work. And other times, I will push the button once, but it gets stuck and does it 3 times... I'm constantly fighting with that phone now.. :(

My g/f had a Razr a few months ago and it had the same button problems LB described, but they started showing up after she had the phone for about 2 months. They replaced it twice, both the replacements did it, so they upgraded her to the Chocolate. That one had issues too. Now she has a Dare, and that phone is pretty cool. But then again, they're only on Verizon IIRC.

MeFryRice

Yes, the Dare is only available on Verizon. Most of verizon's phones tend to use the same UI which is nice but kinda boring at the same time.

In terms of features, I like having everything really. I enjoy being able to browse the internet while I'm at work or in the middle of nowhere. I don't have an unlimited data plan so using 3g full time isn't always an option. I really don't Windows Mobile 6, it's been fine since I uploaded it to my blackjack. I like the function of smart phones but I'm European so style also plays a big part in the determining factor.

But at the end of the day, it's all about what gets me the best signal. I just wish there was more selection with the at/t online upgrade part, all they have worth noting are:

Blackberry 8820 (wifi)
Blackberry Pearl 8220 (wifi)
Blackjack II
Pantech Duo
Iphone

And the wifi feature isn't the be all end all feature I thought it would be seen as it doesn't even utilise it for phone calls. The phone selection is cack.

I use my phone as a phone and have an iPod Touch for WiFi (and games, lol). If I don't have a signal, oh well. But hell, I drive down the street and it's picking up signals almost anywhere I go.

Yeah but you have Verizon, AT&T blows (or it maybe just around our area).

JennB

AT&T is great for us up here. No problems at all.

What I found sucky about AT&T/Cingular...were all the spurious charges on my bill....and 'accidental' changes they would arbitrarily make to my contract and billing, (which all began the instant At&T took over too)costing me hundreds....each of which had to be contested...and their employees were the rudest I have ever dealt with when dealing with those billing issues. Their cell coverage was never an issue though.

Cingular claims we still owe them $$...which is not possible because all due amounts
had to be paid to cancel the contract. Afterward the ****ers invented more charges!
I told them to eat ****...they will NEVER get it...EVER!!!!!!! At this point
its just a matter of principle....and my stubborn Germanic DNA.

We signed up with Verizon. Not one issue since.

MeFryRice
10-23-2008, 01:28 PM
I know what you mean about those "accidental" charges with AT&T. For the first couple months, my bill was stupid high and I always enjoyed having to talk to someone in Iraq. :(

JennB

Weird. I've never had a problem with Cingular or AT&T and I've been with one of their incarnations or another for about 8 years.

Well I'm part of a family plan so breaking off and going independent isn't going to work to well. I need to check out some third party retailers and see if they have anything interesting. I really miss the plethora of cell phone shops we have in England.

RotorNutFD3S

I had billing problems when I had a work phone through AT&T, and I wasn't even paying the bill! lol
But yeah, since I dropped T-Mobile for Verizon forever ago, I had one problem, and they quickly and politely took care of it.

Sometimes it's risky, but find a phone you like and see if someone on Craigslist is selling one. I got a few phones that way and it's always worked out really well.

Oh I would like to, but they all tend to be 80-100 more than I would like to spend.

I completely forgot about this site but have you checked out www.myworldphone.com? They have some pretty cool unlocked phones.
