View Full Version : Really need help with an uncomfortable buy! :(

So, I bought the BRP MP62 SC on Clubroadster for 1500... the guy was supposed to ship it today but he calls me to tell me now that it is making a sound. He says... "it sounds like gears grinding".
I'm not comfortable with this sale at all... I already paid him the 1500 by paypal and he told me that it was in great shape. He never mentioned a noise until now. He also said on the ad that it was rebuilt 10k ago. He now says his friend had it for 10k, and he has had it for 5k with no mention of a rebuild during the ownership of either. So... rebuilt 10k ago but it's been making this sound for the past 15k? Doesn't line up.
So... what the hell should I do? I've already paid him. He seems like a nice guy - no disrespect to him because he brought the issue to me. I told him I was reconsidering and that I would look into my options. I don't want to pay to rebuild this thing. I was buying an SC in good condition... not one that sounds like grinding gears. I hate backing out of deals more than anything. Ugghhhh...
Thanks,
Dallas

Nevermind guys... haha. After just typing out the situation I realize that I can't possibly be in the wrong for backing out. He told me on the phone that it has been fine and making the noise for 15k... In the ad he says it was rebuilt 10k ago. NO ADD UP.
In the meantime... if you can rebuild or afford to rebuild/take the risk. It's a good price.

Back out! You are in Noway wrong in this situation. Protecting your hard earned money is ok.

Yeah, screw that. Story changing that much = run away. All is not as described in the advertisement when you paid for it, so I think you have every right to back out. And probably PM a mod or admin over there and let them know what's going on, at a minimum to cover your own *** so you don't get labeled as a bad buyer.

Back out if he'll let you, and buy the SC from Panic. If not, just put a hold on the paypal payment(you have 45 days to do so) and request a partial refund that would be enough $ to get it rebuilt. Then you'll have a fresh blower for the same amount that you were originally going to pay.

Yeah, get your money back and get the MP62 Panic has. MUCH better deal.

Yeah we know that the MP62 from Panic only covered a few thousand miles, plus it has a tuned piggyback ecu, and an intercooler, also I think a radiator. If you don't have a 99-05, you could easily sell all that other stuff (well the radiator and the piggyback) and recoup at least a thousand of the purchase price ($2500 I believe). The intercooler is a Trackdog and not year specific (also quite awesome with very low pressure drops). Contact Paypal, and explain the differences between the earlier and later statements, with any luck the guy is someone who depends on Paypal for a significant income flow. Otherwise, getting your money back may take some doing. I have had a few of these, and have never had a problem getting refunded, however, I have heard some horror stories. Act as quickly as possible, Paypal may be able to freeze the funds before the guy transfers them. Expect the refund to take 6-8 days if you have a cooperative seller, and upwards of six weeks if he's not.

Just in case Dallas goes with the MP62 setup, it is year specific, they make different intercooler setups for NA and NB. I know the air diversion panels on top of the radiator are different (easy to swap) but IIRC some of the mounting points and hardware are different between NA and NB, espcially since the radiators mount differently. However, getting an NB kit installed in an NA should be pretty simple regardless, Gary @ TDR is pretty awesome about answering tech questions.

I already talked to Panic and they didn't want to part just the SC kit. I can't afford the whole thing even though it is a good price. And I can't use a lot of it.
So, I told the guy to give me my money back last night and he still hasn't. The only thing he has said is he is "looking into options for me". I don't want to deal with someone that changes their story this bad. I'm really getting ****ed hard right now.

Will the fact that I used a personal gift transfer screw me over?

Yes. AFAIK, you cannot file a claim with PayPal for the transaction because it was labeled a gift. On little purchases I can see using that option, but on big expensive purchases, it's worth it to pay the extra money for some peace of mind and having the ability to make a claim.

Well, finally got off the phone with the guy. He offered to split the rebuild price with me which was really nice... but I'm just tired of the situation. He said he would transfer the money back into my paypal account tonight.
...so, I guess it's back on the market. The only thing is that he didn't have any explanation for the millage confusion... So, yeah

You are beyond lucky! If someone wants you to do a "gift" option, unless you know the guy DON'T! Instead offer to pay the 3% Paypal fees, if that doesn't make them happy, walk away...no RUN!!

Yeah. I learned my lesson there. And you're right. I got lucky as hell.
