It appears that there are a few people on the board that enjoys mounting biking just as much as I do. I have yet been able to go since I've moved here from Utah a few years ago. When the weather begins to warm up again, how many people would be interested in riding a trail or two?

Thanks!
Also, what trails does everyone recommend? I personally prefer something more technical but I doubt everyone is on the same physical shape level so we'll need to start off with something more "easy".

I may come. I haven't gone mountain biking in 5+ years, so I'll probably be really bad! And I would be one of the people in the "not-so-great-of-shape level"

That's fine. You can ride my mom's bike since you no longer have yours.

I have only been to trails in Athens and the mountains. My dad works with most trails in this area some are really good, I haven't been on any real beginner type trails around here. I like technical stuff, and I like a good fast technical downhill as well.

I'm about to buy a bike and would love to join. I grew up racing BMX, but that was many years/beers ago. Sign me up for the "easy" trails with potential to move onto something a little more challenging later!

Where are all of you located? There are trails in Oakwood at Gainseville State College that are pretty easy.

No worries Nick, for the first few trails, I recommend we ride an easier trail so no one is left behind and can ride at a comfortable pace. It won't be a race to see who can complete the trail the fastest.
As Sawyer and Eric have already indicated, we're on the south side of Atlanta but knowing that the mountains/trails are north, I am expecting to make a commute to wherever.

yellow river park in gwinnett county is another good place... or it was a few years ago, I haven't been there in a while. It would probably be the most centrally located spot. There are also trails in gainesville at the Elachee nature center.

the frames aren't. they are famous for the triple triangle frame. the new GT Carbon Fury was beaten with a ballpeen hammer, over and over till the HAMMER broke. their frames are by far the best IMHO. i ride with guys who do the Gary Fisher, Trek, Felt, etc... i've seen many a frames buckle, bend, and break but never a GT
i ride an Avalanche 2.0, but plan to have a 1.0 this year

I can honestly say I have never been mountain biking. I've not really done much with bikes in general asides from using it as transportation as a youth. I could see why mountain biking could be good fun though.

I have (or had, depending on what my dad did with it) a Trek that was a gift from a neighbor that was no longer using it. Don't know what model. Hopefully it's still there, or I'll be shopping to participate. lol

Yellow River trails have been emasculated. Good to take your beginner girlfriend. I am near Tribble Mill, there are a few decent trails there. I'll ride with y'all, someone has to be the broomwagon.
My bikes? Fat Chance Monster Fat, Rivendell Atlantis, GT LTS. All old like me.

I have a really nice GT (well maybe, I left it at my parents house) that was baller back in the day when I built it. I forget the fancy parts selection, but it had some sort of nice wheels and tires, crank, clipless pedals, head, bars, v brakes, Rock Shox Judy something fork, Shimano XT front and rear with the rapid fire selectors, etc etc etc. Also had one of those neat trip computers that showed instant, max, and average speeds. Pretty amazing how fast you can go on a bike. I put it up when I turned 18 and got on a motorcycle.
Since my knee surgery, I don't feel comfortable on a standard bike anymore. I can pedal it fine, but my knee crunches when the pedal comes to full top. It doesn't hurt as much as it makes me feel really uncomfortable and afraid I'm further damaging it.
I can ride a recumbent style bike just fine, but I don't own one and they're fairly expensive.

I've been to Blankets Creek once. It's definately not a begginer course if that's what ya'll are wanting to start at. I have a mountain bike I haven't rode for 3 years or more. I still have it with flat tires, but I'd be willing to get it out sometime. The only issue is transportation. The miata is my only car.

Now that the weather is starting to warm up, we need to decide where we should have our first ride. The sooner we start riding the better as I don't want anyone getting ill due to heat exhaustion.

Heh, I've been putting it off because of the damn pollen. I used to ride the golf cart track around my neighborhood but when my tire tracks are re-obscured by pollen in a matter of about 30 minutes I start to question the cleanliness of the air I'm taking in...

Easiest I know of around here would be a tossup between sope creek and big creek.
Blankets is the best by far, but not exactly for those just cutting their teeth on the sport.

if you looked closely when you went to blankets you would see they have a beginners course...
Mosquito Flats FTW!
if you found that difficult, then IDK what to say as I have seen 10 year olds riding the intermediate trails with their parents

Sope Creek is a killer uphill and all those phucking walkers/naturetwats make my day sour
Blankets and Big Creek is all I ride, if they can't handle Mosquito Flats then bicycles just aren't for them...I never have as much fun as when i ride that trail.

I went with a friend. He made me go on a certain course, I don't even know what one it was now. My neighbor goes out there with his two kids who are now about 8 and 11 maybe? They've been going for years. I don't know what part they take.

I guess that's true, but I've only ever gone to Sope Creek during the weekdays so I never saw that much foot traffic.
Blankets is kinda weird, though. A lot of people underestimate how far a mile is on a bike even on relatively level ground  I don't think i'll try and tackle dwelling and south loop again in one day. That was a bit much for me... Stupid peer pressure.

Dwelling FTMFW!! my goal is to attack that trail without stopping for air. my problem is the group i ride with are all competition bikers/work in bike stores. they don't push me, but lesson 1 i learned- don't try to keep up with the pack, set your pace.
i accidentally got on south loop once just a portion it was fun but im still not ready for Van Michael/Area 51
