CARMEL, Ind. -- Someone apparently hacked into an electronic road sign in Hamilton County Monday morning, prompting stares and giggles from motorists because of the message the sign displayed.

The sign, which read "Raptors Ahead Caution," amused motorists in a construction zone on Keystone Avenue, just north of 116th Street.

"It's kind of crazy. I'm totally confused," said one motorist. "I'm kind of expecting … dinosaurs to run down the road, or something."

Another puzzled motorist said, "Which raptors?" before adding that he hadn't seen the sign.

Carmel spokeswoman Nancy Heck said the signs on Keystone Avenue are owned by a contractor, Highway Technologies, which is responsible for programming signs in the Keystone Avenue construction zone.

The odd road sign in Indiana came days after a widely publicized highway road sign message near the University of Texas that warned motorists "Caution! Zombies Ahead!" and "Nazi Zombies! Run!!!"

Both incidents occurred within weeks of various articles appearing online with descriptions of how to hack into the road signs, while pointing out that such an act is illegal.

And the ones in Texas...

Besides the usual rush hour traffic, commuters in Austin, Texas, Monday also had to deal with reports of an imminent zombie attack.

Two city construction road signs near the University of Texas were hacked to display the warnings, reported the Austin American-Statesman.

The electronic signs, which usually warn motorists of traffic detours, instead included warnings such as "Caution! Zombies Ahead!" and "Nazi Zombies! Run!!!"

The signs also instructed motorists to "run for cold climates."

The hacking occurred within weeks of various articles appearing online with descriptions of how to hack into these road signs -- which point out that such an act is illegal.

According to a KXAS-TV story, Austin officials weren't too amused by the warning, noting the signs are used to report road conditions and accidents. They are working to find out who hacked the system.

See, these guys clearly don't know anything about zombies. Running for colder climates only makes you lazy in the event of a zombie invasion. They'll freeze in the winter and thaw out in the spring. That just gives you time to let your guard down. We have to deal with the problem now!

That's right, I've read the zombie survival handbook.

Well it's not so secret when you post it on the internet. ;)

I'd like to change one to "caution - warning ahead"

 I wanted to make one flash "The cop is sitting right here!"

I've seen the letterboard sign with that on it and the cop sitting right behind it.

"rogue road signs ahead"

I was going to say the same thing. Something about this 'secret' plan seems flawed. Also, now isn't really the time for such shenanigans. If I were to do something like this, I'd let the heat from the story die down. Wait a couple months then come out of no-where w/ it.
