An autocross? It's easier and cheaper to setup a track day lol.

Let's see if i can finally take the Vettes in SM2 down.... I was on their asses last year.
But this means I have to spend $850 on a new set of V710s soon....

Nein.

Maybe. I'll find out tomorrow.

simontibbett
02-26-2009, 09:27 AM
I'll probably go to one at Turner, too far of a drive for a minute of track time at Six Flags. They should run GCF again.

Jack-MX5ATLanta.com
02-26-2009, 09:31 AM
Having said that, the six flags lot is huge. I'm not going to complain about track time in the same way any more now that the schedule is fixed. It's not as much as a regular track day but it is something fun to do for a couple of hours on a Sunday.

simontibbett
02-26-2009, 09:33 AM
True, but for $30 that's a full tank to go to the mountains.

Jack-MX5ATLanta.com
02-26-2009, 09:35 AM
Yeah but I'm retiring from the mountains.

I'm convinced someone we know is going to get seriously screwed up there. There are too many variables not under your own control, and I don't like that.

simontibbett
02-26-2009, 09:37 AM
We have roll bars lol

Jack-MX5ATLanta.com
02-26-2009, 09:43 AM
:lmao: hahaha ok I'll wear a helmet too.

simontibbett
02-26-2009, 09:57 AM
I am wearing my helmet and HANS next time, plus full suit, shoes, gloves, my nomex underwear, arm restraints, etc.

I've driven around in a full-face helmet on the interstate...people's reactions are quite funny.

Yeah we do it downtown Athens all the time. I liked driving my Civic with window net up and everything around town.

Jack, that is a good decision IMHO. I know or know of several guys who died doing mountain runs in the last few years. If another vehicle crosses the double yellow in front of you while you are at a high rate of speed it really won't matter much how good a driver you are.

What is that? Some kind of sensible smart truthful old man wisdom??

It's a nice counter to that brilliant piece of wisdom you have as a sig. But I'm in a fortunate position where track days aren't beyond the realms of possibility so I'm not gonna push my luck this year. I might go up just to cruise and enjoy the scenery every once in a while.

 Unfortunately I cant take any credit for that 'wisdom'...that must be credited to Don, miata.net moderator and know it all ****** extraordinaire. That is an actual quote too, not something made up. If you dont keep up with Don's wisdom youre just out of touch. hahaha

Doppelgänger

WTF?

Last I looked, weathre was supposed to be clear sunday. My new slicks came in, but I won't have the mmounted in time, so I guess i'll use the Hankooks one last time because they get burned off in a burnout of epic proportion (which I will get pics of)

Autox in the snow will be really entertaining. Afternoon run group ftw, not gonna have to stand around during freezing mornings this time.

matredd
02-26-2009, 02:28 PM
I'll decide which set of tires to use that morning then. See what happens...

Well, that was a fun event. That course was LOOOONG. Took 20+ minutes just to walk it. The slalom required most of my 3rd gear (read- 60+mph). Although it was a bumpy and I did walk the fine line of throttle steer (not drifting), I managed to grab 2nd in class and 21st fastest overall time out of 160+ people. Not bad for running on used *** beat to hell heat cycled road race compound slicks.

What probably surprised me the most was I rode in a new Shelby Mustang on 285 wide V710s and that car felt incredibly fast...it seriously made me think twice about not having abs on that slick surface...the car was glued. When I rode with him, he ran a 62.x , my best time was a 60.2 on my last run. Dammit, if I had gone and mounted up the new slicks on friday I would have without a doubt taken 1st in class. Oh, I was "only" .4 behind the SSM winner. I feel accomplished and ready for the next one.

Otto
03-09-2009, 11:28 PM
the winner of CS had a 59.6 run, the silver MR2 on fresh hoosiers:(, i had a horrible time running, i was soooo sick

Im Teamsolo, usually im one of the first to arrive and last to leave, I was sick on sunday so i left a little after 3rd heat, otherwise i wouldve been there all day

but i had stepped in and was handing out the loaner helmets during 3rd heat

I'm in. I was thinking we could do this as an unofficial meet of sorts - I'm going to post a thread about it now.

So what time exactly is that night event on July 11th. I work every Sat/Sun evening so that's the only one I might be able to make it too. Plus it'll be darker so it will be more difficult for everyone to see exactly how out of practice I am. :D

Doppelgänger
06-02-2009, 10:09 AM
iirc the "night" evets started at lik 5 or 6...amaff can tell us.

amaff
06-02-2009, 10:22 AM
Something like that. The schedule for that event hasn't been posted yet, but generally gates open around 5:00

Otto
06-02-2009, 11:54 AM
i think it was more like 3-4 gates open, cars off between 5-6

amaff
06-02-2009, 01:37 PM
That's probably more correct

sharkythesharkdogg
06-04-2009, 09:35 PM
Once again the swing shift can kiss the flattest, whitest part of my ***. Maybe I can trade shifts.......

Jack-MX5ATLanta.com
06-04-2009, 11:28 PM
The swing shift?

amaff
06-05-2009, 12:34 AM
Generally, a shift used to cover gaps between shifts... at least that's what they call it where I work. IE, USA works from 10-6, China picks up 6-2 (EST), but the hand off leaves a little lapse in coverage, so they have a few folks work 2-10 so that we have folks actively working during that little lapse.

Not sure how the weekend factors in lol

sharkythesharkdogg
06-11-2009, 03:51 PM
Amaff has it basically right from where I'm standing. Quik Trips operate 24-7 so on Saturdays/Sundays as the weekend manager I'm there from 2:30pm until 12 that night. I thought I was done with 'em when I seperated from the Air Force. Either way I can't find anyone willing to trade so far. Big suprise.
