need a straight undented hood, don't care about paint, can be ****ty. I found at the tech day that my hood is made of steel somehow  I'd be willing to trade my old black steel hood (good paint) plus cash for any color aluminum one.

Tommy (Roadster) should have a red one but I'm not too sure what his plans for his parts car are. He's also a long drive away from you, with him being in Covington.

Fair enough :)

How did you find out it was Steel? I had no idea Miata's could come with Steel hoods.

I am going to guess either he lifted someone's else hood at the tech day or someone lifted his and commented on the weight.

Replacement hoods provided by the aftermarket are often steel.

yeah, i've never been around a ton of other miatas at the same time like that, and yeah, someone picked up my hood and was like woa wtf, and i was like what do you mean? and then i lifted another hood, and I couldn't believe it. Then we stuck a magnet on it, and yeah.. :(

i'm guessing the PO rear ended a tow hitch or something. I think it was mike who also pointed out that it didn't have any badging like other hoods do on the underside. my rad was also kinda ****ed up when i got the car. who knows.

I pointed out that it doesn't have the correct badges underneath the hood. I would say your assumption of the previous PO hitting a hitch would be pretty close cause IIRC, both front fenders still had vin # tags on them.

Replacement hoods provided by the aftermarket are ALWAYS steel.

Fixed. ;)

That's actually not entirely true.

In the case of metal hoods it is.
But, if you want to nitpick there are carbon and fiberglass units out there.

No I mean there are aluminum replacements not from Mazda.

Never seen any such thing.
What company sells them?

I'll find it again. My dad works for insurance companies so has all the replacement part catalogs.

Yeah...they may say "oem replacement' but theyre not aluminum....unless theyre selling you a hood from Mazda. ;)

I say that claim is likely bull****. But whatever.
I bet you order one and you'll be nicely surprised with a nice heavy steel hood.
