In street vernacular its likely - "thinking you are better than others"

Yeah, I agree with Kurt, IE. the crowd on MiataTurbo.net that answers every question with "Use the look up function NOOB!" See also: banned members of this forum.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that this thread is from my post...
In street vernacular its likely - "thinking you are better than others"
That was how I was using it. I understand that mnet has argued 100,000 over cowl intake or cai but that wasn't my question. It would have been just as easy to ignore the thread

I am not of the opinion that mnetters are 'elitists'.
They just have different values from say the dooshers at crnet or turbonet etc.
They also have the $$ to back up their intentions and tastes, as opposed to the broke azz kiddies that inhabit many other forums.

Bernie
04-14-2011, 09:18 AM
Let's not forget that a lot of mnetters are older, well educated folks... If you have a guy talking about intake temps, and what-not, he could very well be a dang genius of fluid dynamics.

Not that you don't have well educated people on other forums, I'm just saying based on the demographics, which fall more in line with the demographics of the "average" Miata owner.

What are they now? Male, mid to late 50's, well educated, empty nesters, professionals... and usually white...

Let's not forget that a lot of mnetters are older, well educated folks...

Which was the primary 'demographic' of a Miata owner until the much more recent influx of broke azz jdmYotiTE ricer kiddies. In years gone by the average Miata owner I came in contact with was 30s-40s, if younger or older then well educated/successful as well.

So I am agreeing with your assessment.

Also true.
The smartest people I know with regard to any system on your Miata, be it the HVAC system, the electrical system, ignition, etc etc are usually mnetters. There are a few guys over there that I swear can tell you wire colors and voltage or ohm readings for anything on your entire car....and do so from memory.

probably stupid.

but back on topic....

I know some people have called me an elitist cuz I have nice things. I have a problem with the "now" network as I call it. People wanting it now but dont want to wait to get the right thing later.

Some people will do x then y and spend money and don't really get where they needed to get to. When all they had to do was wait.... save money cost of x + y= z. and they could have gotten what they needed.

I mean, I'd love to have a turbo or supercharger but for now, im happy with a car that starts.

it would be hypocracy if I didnt troll my OWN topic much less have a thread drift....

cuz that never happens here.

There is nothing wrong with doing it right the first time.

We've got a saying the saltwater hobby... "the only thing that comes quickly, is failure" Saltwater is a great example of what you were saying. You can buy all the $20 protein skimmers off eBay that you want, but they'll never hold a candle to a well engineered skimmer in the $200 range.

The reason I made the comment is it's so hard to get answers over there now because everyone is to busy arguing over why they are right and you are wrong. It's hard to get honest information and I didn't feel like dealing with it and I know and trust you guys are not going to throw 100 answers and turn the thread into a war

Those types have basic math failure.
Also tend to care too much about what others think, ie their piers etc. I call that 'fad-following'. But, you are correct. The more recent generations have a major problem with instant gratification. Gotta have that expensive Bimmer and new house & toys right away. The more intelligent approach of working hard, saving, and not buying things just because you can is not so popular anymore. There are also major issues with what people value and think of as life priorities. This change in thinking has much to do with America's financial woes too.

Or you get conflicting answers from everyone that contributes to the post...

Or the thread digresses into how they are going to call customer service at Mequiars because the cap on their 5 yr old bottle of wax is plugged up.

No, you just have to know who to ask and who to ignore. ;)
I have been a member there since there was like 2-3k members, as opposed to 50k now or whatever. It was always like that. Ignore some, ask others. But its like that on every forum.

There used to be membership numbers by your screen name. Those numbers were sequential.
They were often helpful in determining who was a doosher instant know it all noob, or someone that had been around awhile.
In one of the forum upgrades they were done away with.
Now they have those stupid gear ratings....which measure nothing more than how much of a post slut you are.

i can also post Kurt's phone number....

Yeah when im on M.net, its strictly for search functions... Unless IM bringing a thread from 2001 back from the dead so people can go crazy over there and beat themselves to death... again.

I'm gonna go with this.

Having a cocky attitude and belittling everyone makes an elitist.

In the Miata/car hobby the word elitist is often misused.

Just because you dont want to go to IA-Sonic meets where 4wd dooshers smash into cars, or to the Varsity for ghetto ricer action and horrible food doesnt make you an 'elitist'. That just means you probably have some common sense, or perhaps even intelligence.

Just because you prefer stock to modified or vice versa doesnt make you one either.

I view an elitist as either an individual who thinks of themselves as elevated in status compared to others due to their station in life, or someone who will not contemplate the opinions of others to see if they have value. Instead they simply write off the other person's views before examination as worthless because of any number of reasons the elitist considers a liability. Examples being, too young, too old, too rich, too poor, too white, too black, too gay, too straight, or even too legit to quit.

And to help Jzilla derail his own thread, THIS is Elitist. They are badass.

There are several elitists on mnet who think they are the master of all things related to cars but I just ignore them. I almost fit their demographic though.
