This right here is just straight up bull****...
U.S. troops would be paid through Friday, but after then, paychecks to members of the military, including those in war zones, would stop. The National Institutes of Health would stop accepting new patients and would put clinical trials on hold.
Alright all you whippersnappers....take a Valium
This has been done before with no problem
See the Dem's; LAST YEAR, never passed a budget. Now that their arch enemy (Repub's0 is in power in the House (control the money) They can use the Rep's as a scapegoat for their own lack of action.
You'll get paid, you'll resume your normal schedule when they get their **** together in 3 weeks.
Me; I'm ecstatic this is happening.

I know, I know... they pulled this crap several times when I was in the Marine Corps back in the late '90s...
My aunt worked for Social Security for almost 45 years and was always talking about how the budget was squeaking through every year. Just a damn shame that they have to include soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines' pay in all this political wrangling.
Didn't Hill and Billiary's disdain for the military teach ya anything.
You are scum compared to their royalness

Won't affect your pay, if you are on active duty, and no, they didn't tell the guys across the pond not to show up. If you are a reservist, you might lose a weekend drill. Sorry, welcome to the suck. Now me, I'm happy, sounds like my wife just got some leave time, of course she'll probably spend it preparing for her cases anyways, she just won't get paid for it. It's what we call public service. Yeah, they shut down the Government under Clinton too, I'm trying to remember if it happened under Bush, but the end result was my check still came on time.

See, that is a slippery slope... Once I learned a bit about how the world actually worked, I was less enamored with their politics... However, I'd LOVE to hang out with Bill for a night, drink beer and maybe hit the shoe show.
I believe a lot of our representative quagmire is firmly rooted in the ability of representatives to hitch completely unrelated items together on a bill. There is no reason that a Federal loan to some bank with idiot management should be linked to a bill that provides funding for cancer research or child health benefits.

I'm sure in the end you will end up getting a few days off with pay.
I'm in a different boat. I'm civil service and considered "mission essential" so I HAVE to show up for work, not get paid, then get paid when they finally pass a budget.

Welcome to the world most of the rest of us inhabit. When there is not enough money you might not get a paycheck. Sucks doesn't it? Except in your case they will just print more and all will be well. For now.

The military, Social Security, tax "refunds" and other "essential" services will be paid and paid on time. Sadly not much "shuts down" during a Government shut down.

The tax "refunds" will be paid on time.
Umm...not so. Maybe if you electronically filed. If you mailed expect delays.

I feel like America is about to be attacked by Zombie Terrorists during this bull**** no pay period. Time to load up.
But seriously, this is messed up. If you are going to end someones pay period, do some other group, like politician pay. They live in mansions and sh!t. But dont take it from the military......thats almost morbid. Whether you are reserves or not....

Let's not forget that most politicians are pretty "well off" to begin with and really don't need their paycheck nearly as much as the men and women on the front lines.

red dawn. the enemy is living Among us just like our friends the illegal immigrants. Several radical gihad pro books and manuals have been found on our border... you think some poor Mexican crossing the border decides to bring THAT book along, since they're majority catholic correct? Hezbollah, Iranian, is operating in central American and south American country's RIGHT NOW, and since 2005 Iran's dictator has been making twice as many trips to those countries. and Hugo Chavez is 100% dictator socialist. kinda goes hand in hand right? so if they're operating in central and north south america... side note: brazil just elected a Marxist... adding more fuel... what stops them from crossing our fallible southern border? a pipe bomb in CA on a jewish synagog?

FWIW- Red Dawn was a military invasion of Communist Forces (USSR/Cuba). Not socialists, cells, beaners, or terrorists groups. A wise Japanese General by the name of Yamamoto once said this "You cannot invade the mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass". A quote with which I firmly believe

Back on topic: It's weird how it would have worked out (shutdown has been avoided....for now), but basically, military people would have had their checks delayed, agency civilians would have had them delayed as well, and filthy contractors like myself wouldn't have been effected at all. But the commissary on base would have closed (WTF). I also saw that any service member who banks through Navy Federal would have been covered (basically a free pay advance)...pretty f*cking awesome for them to do that.

I don't really want to get started on this, but I was reading this closely while it was happening.
I started to think to myself about what would happen in the gov't did shut down for a week or so and no one in the nation really noticed.... What would the politicians do then?
