If you want to put together a group buy for an FM product, we're introducing the new Group Buy center. It takes all the hassles out of administering the buy, and opens it up to anyone and not just a small group - making it more likely you'll reach the number of people you need!

To be honest, we've avoided group buys in the past because they can be a problem to deal with. Not anymore, here's how it works:

1. We'll announce a group buy on a certain product. The announcement will include the discount, the number of people we need to make it work and a deadline. You can keep track of the current group buys on our website.

2. If you want to join in, then you can either order the part through the website or give us a call. We'll take your payment information, but we won't charge your card. The website will be kept up to date with the number of people who are currently signed up so you can see how close we are to getting the minimum number.

3. At the end date of the buy, one of two things will happen.
* If we have the minimum number of orders, we'll charge your card and ship the parts.
* If we do not have the minimum number of orders, we'll give you the option of buying the part at the regular price or canceling the order.

Let us know if there's a certain product you'd like to see.

I wonder how much of a discount they would give on an FMII kit. Rollbars might be a good product to try.

I suggested they try more than one item at a time. If they did various products, might have even more sales interest coming in.

it would be easier to get more people in on smaller/ cheaper items like butterfly brace for example.

Hi everyone! I was asked to come in and answer a couple of questions.

We'll definitely be posting more than one product at a time. The Group Buy center has been up for (checks watch) about 5 hours now, and I was planning to corner the boss to see what else we can put up tomorrow.

It's not a way to get rid of surplus stuff. That's what "deal of the day" is for. We get approached about doing group buys on a regular basis, but we've found that they're usually a real cluster. So we put this together to make them easier to administer.

You tell us what you want a group buy on, we'll take care of the rest. If there are a bunch of people that want butterfly braces (we're hearing that a lot), then we'll put that together.

Thanks for joining up Keith! I second Laguna's request on the turbo hardlines.

rollbar would be hard since it is not an FM produced product, so FM would have to work out a group buy through the other company(can't remember the name) and then since the other company ship from there warehouse, Fm then have to hand over all the addresses and hope nothing get F**ked up due to the bulk.

MeFryRice

Well to make it easier on everyone, what if we were to have the group buy shipped to one address and then we can distribute the product?

Keith stated that they are not limited to just FM exclusive products and that group buys on rollbars are a possibility to consider.

Would just have to work out the logisitics of who all locally is in what group buy. Wouldn't be too hard, but that would drastically cut their shipping costs, and everyone locally splitting the one shipping cost would lower the price for everyone even more. Someone with a business shipping address (which I have available) can get an even cheaper rate.

I'd be interested in the new(er) turbo outlet elbows, but something tells me it'll be a bit harder to get a bunch of people to want to upgrade theirs :)
The butterfly brace sounds nice, even though I have the factory one... but taking out half of my interior sounds like such a PITA

4 bolts on each seat and remove the door sills. Lift up carpet. Done. Not that hard. :p

Well everyone here has car related items shipped to the office so the wives don't see. I don't see it being an issue having the items shipped here.

We can definitely do rollbars. Having them drop-shipped from Hard Dog is not a problem.

As for a bulk shipment to somewhere in the Atlanta area to save on shipping costs, we can do that as well. The European clubs go together on shipping fairly often. It wouldn't be limited to particular products either.

Unlike the group buy center, we don't have a bulk order process. The work has to be done on your end, because we can't give a shipping quote until we know what all the parts are. The best thing to do is for one person to take the lead and get orders from everyone. Contact us, get a shipping quote, tell us who is ordering what and then the individuals can call in to pay. We'll pack it all together and ship it out once that's done.

The big thing towards making a bulk order work is commitment. Every time you change the order, we need to recalculate shipping and that holds things up.

MeFryRice
01-16-2009, 09:48 AM
Keith - Thanks for the information. If we decide to ship to one location, I'll take the responsibility to have it shipped to my office.

If everyone else on the board is ok with it, I'll also take responsibility for getting the orders submitted as well. I would prefer to do one large shipment towards the end of each month, that way it allows members time to decide what they would like to purchase as well as gathering the necessary funds.

RotorNutFD3S

Just to make sure you know, the bulk shipment each month and the group buy will be two different entities then. Start a thread to see how much interest you have in it.

There are two different things being suggested here.

Group buys - we'll take care of that. That's when a bunch of owners get together so that we have a minimum order of something so we can give a good price. It's not tied to a region. It's why we created the Group Buy center, as they tend to get a little wild and wooly when organized in a forum.

Bulk/consolidated orders - that's Steve's gig. That's when we'll ship a number of orders to the same location. We can't offer discounts here, but the shipping cost will be less. I do ask that you try to get the order finalized before we start figuring shipping.

Rollbars should be first priority from the sounds of things, although really with the kind of money that would be pushed through to a business I should work something out with Vendor status or at least advertisement.

My position is private classifieds are fine for everyone. It's when a business starts selling things via here that I want to work something out. Especially seen as Enthuza went a long with it. Can't have double standards here.

I'd like to point out that we're not soliciting business here - I'm simply answering questions that were posed by forum members.

But if you could send me sponsorship information, I'll take a look at it.

That's cool Keith, not gonna troll you or do anything stupid. I'm just in the process of trying to gather sponsors to provide a steady backing for the site.

I'll message you later once I'm awake.
