Garage door opener failed today. :cry:
The motor runs, but something is broken between the motor and the cog that moves the chain.

Got this one (http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100553672&N=10000003+90001)at home depot a short while ago for $340 out the door including install. I usually install things myself, but I am so sick of fixing broken things I gladly paid to have them do it for me. It was the quietest one they had, and has some really neat features like on board battery back up that allows for 20 up/down cycles with the power off.

Really sucks. We had a little extra money at the end of the year, but have had to spend over $800 in the past 2 weeks to replace broken appliances. Never allowed to get ahead. :(

The Genie I had was crap, it didnt last long.
After talking to someone who messes with openers alot I got a Liftmaster. No issues since.

Liftmaster is Chamberlain. Did you get chain, screw, or belt? I guess it's working well for ya.

I got the belt, which is the quietest, and got the 3/4 hp motor which is the quietest of the belts. They say that you can't hear it from inside, not even from the room above the garage.

I also got the fancy-fancy LCD keypad that allows for easy programming and displays time/temperature/garage status (including any faults if present). I'm also going to get their wireless status monitor that goes in the house. As I understand, it lights red or green depending on if the door is up or down. Pretty useful at night time I think, since we've gone to bed with teh door up a few times.

I figured it could be, there are only a few companies that make them...for different brand names.
Mine doesnt have all those bells and whistles, its a chain drive with key pad and a few remotes. Its already outlasted my Genie 6 to 1 :D

The lowest end units were like $140 and only came with 1 transmitter. An extra transmitter is $25-30 alone. After installation is removed from the total ($150), I got the top of line unit for $190 including tax. It's supposedly much better, with a longer warranty, and includes all the neat stuff. So it's unfortunate that I had to shell out $340, but at least I'm fairly happy with it.

The " fail point" on the Genie screw drives tends to be the "runner" that runs on the threaded rod and attaches to the door. The originals are plastic and designed to wear out so you'll buy anopther opener. I managed to replace mine with a metal piece, 14 years of service so far!
