I'd say about half the throw, almost twice as much effort needed. Fun though, feels like an NSX or something with a really small gearbox.

im considering getting one one day. i like the stock shifter, but it would be really nice to have one that's a lot shorter. i have hit my knuckles a couple of times and knocked my cd player cover face off!

Will the shifter itself actually sit lower on Miata short shifters?

Not really with a stock shifter you can't even tell.

yeah i have pictures of my short shifter in my shift boot thread, its about the exact same height if not a little taller. but yeah, they're kickass. my ex gf couldn't drive my car though cause the gears were too hard to move, she couldn't take it out of third without putting it into fourth. bahahaha.

the KG Works one I recently sold actually moved the pivot ball up about maybe 1/4-1/2 inch from stock, and thats what made it a short shifter, as apposed to one that has just been cut down and re-threaded. The K.G. sat almost at the same height as the stock one, it just changed the mechanical advantage, the way it pivoted.

Will, AKA Acro, has one on his miata, and its nuts. The throw is equal to that of an ap2 s2000.

WildFire(something something numbers) has a KG on his miata, and I believe he'll be at the meet on the 31st, you need to check it out.

Acro HAD a KG one in his car, it now sits in mine. It is funny how quickly I adjusted to it being short and it started to to feel long again, that was until I drove Ben's 6sp and tapped the dash with my hand

I installed the KG Works shifter I bought from LagunaRoadster and I can't decide if I really like it or not. It's short and def. requires some extra force to change gears but I def. like how short the throw is now. The only problems I've noticed is it's hard to put it into first gear from a dead stop. :(

Yea my stock shifter with the shock Nadi nob, would do that if I went into 3 just right I would change my station and 5 would eject my face plate:lol::lol::lol:

I had a KG short shifter in my 96 and 99 and loved it. Yeah, a real short sifter requires more effort because it changes the fulcrum point, but the mechanical feeling is rewarding. I've been thinking about getting one for my 6spd.

Also been thinking about getting one for the 6-speed I got because the previous owner did not have a shifter to include. And no one seems to be selling an OEM one. Might as well get used to one right off the bat.

What can't remember my name anymore... huh huh:biggrin:

Yea the KG does require a little more "work" to shift gears but I also have a round shift nob from Rspeed so it doesn't help anything. If I had a stock shifter from a 94-97 it would help by putting the shifter back closer to stock height. Other then my tranny having simple issues. I love the short throw. If I ever get a 6-spd the first thing I will get for it will be a short throw.

Drive your car for a little while and you will notice that it just becomes natural. Yea I have the first gear issue also, but I figured it was my tranny cause I know the spring in the turret just died:(.

Nope, the KG unit is notorious for causing issues in 1st, 5th, and reverse. Some of the m.net reviews on it said that.

My Reverse and 5th don't give me an ounce of problem. Now that i say that i am going to have issues when I leave work:rolleyes:

^^ Mines the exact same way. I noticed that the oil in the turret is dirty so I plan to change it out this weekend. I hope this will help a little but not going to plan on it.

What fluids do you have in your tranny anyway. I know I need to switch to either Sycomesh(the almighty fluid from the DSM and rx7 days) or to something like redline.

I think I still have my stock one if you want it. it needs the rubber boot and a bushing though.

If you want, I have some spare Redline fluid left over from when I did my tranny fluid change... :D But yes, it does actually make a noticeable difference!

Bryan, either of those work really well. And yes, now that you said that, you better pray. lol

Thanks for the offer. I still have my 5-speed stock shifter, but it is not compatible with the 6-speed transmission. Unless you had a 6-speed at some point?

Steve - I have some redline fluid I can bring to the meet, it makes a world of difference.
