View Full Version : High Beams don't work...

So I've got a fun one for you guys. Hopefully someone here's heard of this or I'll have to ask M.net and sift through the BS to get a real answer...

The car is a 1992.
Low beams work fine. High beams work when you pull the stalk to 'flash'. Then, just for fun, when you push the stalk forwards to turn the high beams 'on'... I lose all light from the headlights. Pull it back to go into low-beams and they come on.

Any ideas?

Combo switch or relay. ;)

I figured if it was the relay, the high beams wouldn't come on at all. How hard is it to replace the switch?
Being wholly unfamiliar with any wiring / electronics NOT inside the engine bay, where exactly is the switch? Would you have to replace the stalk, or is it something in the steering column surround?

I'd guess combo switch.

Combo switch is easy.
Must pull steering wheel, then unplug and 3-4 screws hold it in place.
The combo switch includes the light switch and wiper switch stalks etc.

Gotcha. Got one sitting around you'd be willing to part with?

Just for the record, if you need a new headlamp switch, mazda only sells them as a complete combo assembly. They do not sell just the headlamp stalk for the old miata. Even though it screws out and unplugs. Same goes for the wiper switch. Every other car they sell the parts seperately. Stupid, I know. And extremely expensive.

So get it from Kurt. :)

I figured. I may take you up on that. I'll call you probably early next week about picking the part up. Thanks!
