Friends, Comrades and fellow MX5Atlantans. I greet you all in the name of peace, democracy and freedom for all. I stand here before you not as a prophet but as a humble servant of you, the people. Your tireless and heroic sacrifices have made it possible for me to be here today. I therefore place the remaining years of my life in your hands. – Nelson Mandela (sorta) after walking free from prison.
Some say that exile changes a man, that it hardens him, that he will never be the same again. But today I type here, returned from the valley of the shadow of death, stronger than ever. Indeed freedom from the bars of banishment is like a rebirth. But the things we learn while in exile will always stay with it. While some men may look out those prison bars and see mud others will see stars and it is those stars that one must aim for. But as the poet reminds us, prison is just as much a place of reward as it is of punishment! While some may cry freedom only the forgotten will remember that there is but one freedom and it is freedom of the mind!
I would like to say thanks. Thanks to all that let forth their Technicolor cry of “Free Drew!” Those believers and loyalist who defied fear and let it be known to all that freedom is the maxim, the matrix, and the indistinguishable condition that binds us all. Those strong, those incredible ones that stood to the crucible and let forth Viva La Resistance! Thank you. Thank you for the phone calls, the texts, the emails, the facebook messages, that let me know, even in the darkest hour that I was not forgotten. Indeed the cost of freedom is constant vigilance by all who seek it and you paid more than your share of the costs to secure the blessing.
My deepest appreciation goes to the leader of the Free Drew Resistance, Daniel, for he is a man amongst men. When so many stood so tall he found a way to stand taller. Whether he was risking life and limb to cross the dangerous lines to bring news from the front or baking files and good news into cakes to smuggle past the guards he went above and beyond the call of duty and will be forever remembered for his unparallel bravery.
Also, to those special few I would like to ask that you look to me not as your leader, but as your humble servant. You are the heroes; I am merely a matter of happenstance.
So today I return from the blackness of exile to reunite the Awesome Trinity and once again pear at all that lay before me with subdued amazement.
Ex Uno Plures!!!! And Long Live the FDR!!
