View Full Version : Zoom-Fest '09 at Road Atlanta
http://www.mazdameets.com/zoomlogo.gif
We are proud to announce the second annual event date has been set. Due to the success of last years event and the maturity shown by our guest, MazdaMeets.com was able to work out an ANNUAL deal with Road Atlanta and the SCCA.
Mazdameets.com will be hosting Zoom-Fest '09 on July 18-19th at the infamous Road Atlanta course, which offers a gorgeous 2.5 mile track, 750 acres, and close proximity to all needed amenities. This again will be a 2 day festival type event for all Mazda and Mazda powered vehicles. We strive to deliver a safe and enjoyable weekend where you can meet new people, hang out with some old faces and take your car to the limit!
Over the next few months the organizers will be finalizing all the details. We will keep you up to date as more information becomes available. The things we do know at this time will help you plan for the weekend.
* Guest can show up as early as Friday Morning!
* Camping will be allowed, and encouraged!
* All ages are welcomed!
* There will be numerous opportunities to drive the race track, including a PDX (3 - 20 minute sessions with a driving instructor - At Speed!)
* Swap Meet - No charge to sell your extra parts!
* Saturday night outdoor movie!
* Much, much more to be announced!
We hope to see you there. Please keep an eye out for updates posted at MazdaMeets.com.

It's an SCCA race weekend so you'll have to buy a weekend pass or daily . LOL It's been years since I actually paid to get into RA but I'm guessing weekend pass/parking/camping fee is around $30?
I was there last year but we were having some issues with the race car so I didnt get to really go hang out . We'll be racing on this weekend as well so I'll be at the track for sure , hopefully Murphy will leave us alone and I'll have some time to meet & greet..

Shouldnt be too difficult...there were about 10 Mazdas ate the last RA ZoomFest event.
And those were of the RX variety.

FYI the "track time" is regular SCCA PDX, $100 or work.

No license required for the PDX...You will need an approved roll bar in a convertible..I "think" you might also need to be an SCCA member and you'll have an instructor on board as well .
They did offer track touring (60mph max no passing) at this event last year for a $10 donation

im definitely planning on going this year. i wanted to go last year but as soon as i got the flyer for it, it was a week to late! :(

Yeah PDX is what I did that time you all were there Tyler. Actually last years ZoomFest I THINK they somehow managed to allow conv. without rollbars on track? Not sure if I remember that correctly, anyway I wouldn't go out there at speed without rollover protection lol.

The 60mph wuss thing - is like, no roll-bar required, right? If so, it's like when I got on the touring lap deal during The Mitty... which cost $30 for about 10 laps.
EDIT: I have a roll-bar now :)
Touring Laps for '08 were paid for with our fundraiser (killed an Astro Van with a sledge) to benefit the Susan G Komen for the Cure foundation (Breast Cancer Research). Non-Zoomers, which we were labeled, were asked for a donation in order to participate. The 60mph thing must have gotten thrown out the window, as I was only third behind the pace car and was flogging the crap out of my early RX-7 just to keep up with the pace car. Lots of fun, just for the touring laps, and verts were allowed without rollover bars.
The PDX was run strictly by SCCA and paid only to them, but it was great to have the PDX as a driving event. The organizers of Zoom-Fest are all rotary guys, so we didn't reach out to the Miata / MX-5 community much, but we'll fix that for this year. It'll be good to have you guys there.
simontibbett
01-07-2009, 07:13 PM
Yeah we did the parade laps, paid $10...
But the pace car wasn't going fast...soooo...lol hmmm?
We kept stopping holding people up and going flat out until we caught the field again lolol.

simontibbett

LOL true.
When you're at the back of the pack, you can only go as fast as the slowest car ahead. It was fast at the front, anyway.

We are happy to announce a number of great things were finalized over the last week.
First, We would like to welcome a few new sponsors for the event.
* Great American Sign Company has again signed up for this year and will be responsible for another superb quality event T-Shirt. Anyone who has one of last years shirt will tell you - They are top notch. http://www.greatamericansignco.com/ (http://www.nopistons.com/forums/redirect.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.greatamericansig nco.com%2F)
* Grassroots Motorsports Magazine has joined us this year. Along with product for the raffle there will be an add run in the next issue as well as an event article in the following issue. http://grassrootsmotorsports.com (http://www.nopistons.com/forums/redirect.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fgrassrootsmotorsport s.com)
* RotaryCarClub.Com has signed up this year as the "rotary forum" sponsor. I have known one of the owners for a number of years now. We are proud they have embraced the event and together we can build awareness on the East Coast for Mazda and Mazda powered vehicles as well as American road racing and AutoX.
* Re-Speed will of course be very active this year. Re-Speed plans to introduce a bunch of brand new items for the old school rotaries at the event.
* http://www.rotorsportsracing.com (http://www.nopistons.com/forums/redirect.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rotorsportsracin g.com) has joined for this year. They will be over from NC with a product showcase.
* We have been working with a number of other potential sponsors that have responded to our inquiries. Once they finalize their involvement we will announce them as well.
Second, through diligent efforts form the Zoom-Fest promoters the "Time Attack" style AutoX is 100% a go. We have secured the "skid pad" area of the Road Atlanta facility and the Atlanta Region SCCA will operate the event for us. This is a Zoom-Fest exclusive event. It has been setup for novices through pros and stock cars though full blown race. There will be awards for "FTD" in at least 4 classes. This is a huge deal for this years event!
Last but not least, registration is open!
You can sign up for the event here -> http://www.mazdameets.com (http://www.nopistons.com/forums/redirect.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mazdameets.com)
You can also find the answers to all you questions in the FAQ -> http://www.mazdameets.com (http://www.nopistons.com/forums/redirect.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mazdameets.com)

PDX Registration is open!!
After you have registered for Zoom-Fest, Follow this link the the SCCA website. -> http://www.atlantascca.org/ (http://www.atlantascca.org/)
In the middle of the page you will see:
"Register Now for July Double SARRC, Pro-IT and PDX"
First read the rules by clicking on "PDX SUPPS"
Then
Sign up by clicking "REGISTER ONLINE"
1) At the bottom of the page you will see "I am a new user" button to click.
2) Fill in your name, email address and zip then click "continue"
3) Fill in the rest of the required info then click "continue"
4) When asked for SCCA info use this:
Member Number = 007
Membership Expiration = 08/01/09
SCCA Region = 3
Competition License Level = N/A
5) Fill in Make, year and Model and leave the rest blank (unless you really want to fill it in) - Click "continue"
6) Driving experience is not necessary to fill in unless you plan to select the "advanced" group. - Click "continue"
7) Click the check box next to "PDX". It will drop down for you to choose the last option - "PDX (other) - Driving" @ $100
Choose a class in the pull down. Do not choose a class higher than your experience. Rule of thumb is: If you have not ran a PDX in the past you will be group "A". If you have run before and were signed off you are group "B". Make sure to bring your log book from past events in order to not be automatically put in the "A" group.
Read the waiver and then check the box then click "Preview Order"
NOTE: You will need LONG sleeve shirt, LONG sleeve pants and a helmet that meets the rules.

I went up on Sat. and drove by the Fest but no one there I knew.
A buddy of mine in ITB came in second. Pretty good race except for a full course caution for several laps killed the momentum for most.
